What happens when children are taught to see waste differently? 🌍♻️

As part of the LAWMA Academy Summer School 6.0, themed “Young Eco-Heroes: Protecting the Environment,” FABE International Foundation took young learners from a conversation on climate action to hands-on upcycling.

The 7–10-year-olds transformed PET bottles into ottomans and explored throw pillow making, while the 11–15-year-olds worked with used tyre to create ottoman.

The excitement and amazement on their faces were priceless! 🤩

They didn't just learn about upcycling. They experienced how waste can become something useful.

Because sometimes, climate action begins with simply asking:

“What can this become?” 🌱

This summer, empower your kids to make a real difference!

LAWMA Academy is thrilled to invite all children aged 7-15 to our 2026 Summer School Program!

With the theme “Young Eco-Heroes: Protecting Our Environment,” we’re on a mission to build a greener future.

Activities Include:
- Recycling exercises
- Upcycling projects
- Arts and crafts
- Recreational activities
- Quiz & Debate competitions
- A field trip

Duration: August 2026 (4 Weeks)
Days: Mondays to Thursdays (9am - 3pm)
Venue: LAWMA Headquarters, Ijora
Ages: 7-15

Waste? Or raw material for creativity?
In preparation for the Dowen College Trashion day event, the LAWMA Academy team worked with the students on an engaging upcycling practical session where PET bottles, cartons, fabric, foam, and other discarded materials were transformed into beautiful and functional ottoman stools. The students actively participated in the process, learning firsthand how creativity and sustainability can come together to give waste a new life.
On the day of the Trashion Event, the students took it even further as they confidently showcased stunning outfits made entirely from “trash,” turning the runway into a powerful statement of innovation and environmental responsibility.
During the event, a staff of LAWMA Academy delivered a talk on “Turning Trash to Worth,” encouraging students to see waste not as the end of usefulness, but as the beginning of new possibilities.
It was an impactful experience shaping young minds towards a more sustainable future.

Mission accomplished! ✨

The April Cohort of the LAWMA Academy Internship program, Team ZERO TRACE has officially completed their internship journey

As part of their final presentation, the team showcased an innovative sustainability project; a dual-layer office study table and bookshelf created from upcycled textile and tyre waste

The interns transformed these materials into a functional furniture piece that serves as both a study/work desk and a compact bookshelf.

The project reflected not only the knowledge and skills they gained throughout the program, but also their passion for environmental innovation and problem-solving. The MD/CEO LAWMA commended the team for their ingenuity and dedication, making the moment even more rewarding for the interns.

We were delighted to host the students of Joram College on an educational visit to LAWMA.

The students were introduced to the world of waste recycling and upcycling as well as gained first-hand exposure to how waste is transformed and managed for a cleaner Lagos.

They also embarked on a guided tour of our Engineering Services Department, where they observed the day-to-day operations, explored our fleet of waste management trucks, and learned about the different types of bins used in efficient waste collection.

It was truly inspiring to see their curiosity, engagement, and enthusiasm for environmental sustainability.

Together, we are shaping a cleaner, greener future, one learning experience at a time.

The LAWMA Academy team today, conducted a School Advocacy and Educational Sensitization programme in Alimosho LGEA District One.

The sensitization, held across Salvation Army School One and Two, St. Andrew’s Anglican Nursery and Primary School, Community Nursery and Primary School, and Methodist Primary School in the Ipaja–Ayobo axis, focused on the roles and responsibilities of LAWMA, basic waste management and recycling practices, positive environmental interaction, and the importance of proper solid waste management for a cleaner and healthier environment.

Pupils were also encouraged to serve as waste management ambassadors within their schools and communities, reinforcing sustainability at the grassroots level.
