Before You Apply For Change Of Course Or Institution, Read This Carefully ⚠️

Many students rush to apply for a change of course or institution immediately after seeing their JAMB score.

Please calm down first.

This decision can either improve your admission chances… or completely reduce them if you make the wrong move.

Here are important things every student needs to know BEFORE applying for a change of course or institution 👇

1. Check The Course Requirements First
Before changing to ANY course, confirm:
✅ Required JAMB subject combination
✅ Required O’level subjects
✅ Whether your subjects match the course

This is VERY important.

Some students change to courses they are not qualified for because they did not check the subject combination.

For example:

A student who wrote: English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, cannot randomly change to: Law, Accounting, Mass Communication or Engineering, because the subject combinations are different.

A wrong subject combination can completely disqualify you from admission, even if your score is high.

2. Understand Competitive Courses:
Some courses are highly competitive, such as:

Medicine & Surgery
Nursing
Law
Pharmacy
Computer Science
MLS
Physiotherapy
Engineering
Accounting

These courses usually require:
✅ high JAMB scores
✅ strong O’level results
✅ good Post-UTME performance

If your score is low for a highly competitive course, be realistic with your options.

3. Check Previous Cut-Off Trends:
Before changing to any course or school:

✅ Check previous departmental cut-off marks
✅ Check the school’s admission pattern
✅ Check how competitive the course is
This helps you make smarter decisions instead of gambling with admission.

4. Don’t Change To A Course You Know Nothing About:
Some students randomly change to courses they have zero interest in just because:

“The cut-off is low.”

Please be careful. You are going to spend years studying that course.

At least understand what the course is about, career opportunities, subject requirements and whether you can cope with it.

5. Your O’Level Matters Too: Admission is not based on JAMB alone.

Some schools combine: JAMB, O’level grades and Post-UTME
A good O’level can improve your chances greatly.

6. Don’t Rush Because Others Are Rushing:
Many students panic once the change of course form comes out.
Relax. Take your time, research properly, ask questions and get accurate guidance.

Wrong decisions during the admission process can cost you admission for the whole year.

7. Consider Smart Alternatives
Sometimes changing the institution OR course can increase your admission chances greatly.

This is not failure. This is a strategy.

Admission is not by emotions.
It is by:
✅ strategy
✅ accurate information
✅ proper subject combination
✅ realistic decisions

Do not let pressure or fear push you into making poor admission choices.
