It is concerning to learn that a number of WAEC candidates across Ọ̀ṣun, Ọ̀yọ́, Ogun State and other parts of the country were reportedly still taking their examinations late into the evening, with some papers extending until about 7:00PM. This situation has understandably generated anxiety among parents, guardians, and other concerned citizens.
Students who set out from their homes in the morning to write examinations should not have to endure excessive delays that leave them tired, frustrated, and vulnerable. Prolonged waiting periods can affect their concentration, performance, and overall well-being, while also exposing them to unnecessary risks associated with traveling home after dark.
This is not the first time concerns have been raised over the timing and management of WAEC examinations in parts of the country. Such recurring challenges highlight the need for improved planning and coordination to ensure that examinations are conducted efficiently and in a manner that prioritizes the interests of candidates.
We therefore call on WAEC, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Ọ̀ṣun State Ministry of Education, and all relevant authorities to urgently address the issues responsible for these delays and take proactive steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The educational journey of our students should be supported by a system that values their safety, respects their time, and provides a conducive environment for academic success. Every candidate deserves to write examinations under conditions that promote fairness, comfort, and security.
