YSUTH's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Earns Full Five-Year NPMCN Accreditation

Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), Damaturu, has recorded another major milestone as the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has been granted Full Five-Year Accreditation by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), effective 4 June 2026.

According to the accreditation report, the department has been approved to train Four (4) Senior Residents and Fourteen (14) Junior Residents, a testament to the hospital's capacity to provide high-quality postgraduate medical education and specialist training.

The achievement reflects YSUTH's continuous commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery, medical education, research, and the training of future specialists. It also highlights the institution's steady progress in meeting national standards for residency training.

This success is attributed to the dedication and hard work of the hospital's management, consultants, resident doctors, and all members of staff, whose collective efforts have contributed to strengthening the institution's academic and clinical excellence.

The Hospital also acknowledges the unwavering support of the Yobe State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, whose sustained investment in the health sector continues to create an enabling environment for quality healthcare services and medical education.

This latest accreditation further reinforces YSUTH's growing reputation as a centre of excellence for specialist training and quality patient care, while reaffirming its commitment to producing highly skilled medical professionals who will serve communities across Nigeria and beyond.

🎉 ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR YSUTH 🎉

Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) continues to expand its postgraduate medical training programmes with the recent accreditation of additional departments.

The Department of Radiology has been granted Full Accreditation for five (5) years by the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), effective from February 2026 to January 2031.

The Department of Family Medicine has also been granted Full Accreditation for five (5) years by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), effective from 4 June 2026 to June 2031.

These new accreditations add to the numerous postgraduate medical training programmes already accredited at YSUTH, further strengthening the hospital’s role in specialist medical education and healthcare delivery.
