On this WAEC issue, I was opportune to mark about 252 scripts and what I saw in a centre baffled me.
They answered the same set of questions and the answers were all the same, the reason they had different scores was their writing.
Some could write well and others would not write well or couldn't complete the answers.
Places where kids are given answers on the board actually do exist.
This is not going to help the kids in future, the parents are not left out of this, because parents do seek out special centres and pay for those centres to "give assistance" to their kids.
I rest my case.

WAEC RELEASES RESULTS STATISTICS:

WASSCE 2025: Only 38.32% pass English, Mathematics with five credits.

The West African Examinations Council revealed a sharp decline in performance compared to the previous year, following the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for school candidates.

Out of a total of 1,969,313 candidates who sat the examination across 23,554 schools, only 754,545 candidates — representing 38.32 per cent — obtained a minimum of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

This marks a significant 33.8 per cent drop from the 72.12 per cent recorded in 2024

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, August 4, 2025, at WAEC’s national headquarters in Yaba, Lagos, the Head of Nigeria National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, attributed the drop in performance to the Council’s new approach of serialising objective test papers in key subjects such as English, Mathematics, Biology, and Economics.

“This approach drastically reduced the incidence of collusion and made examination malpractice more difficult. We observed a dip in the performance of objective papers, but essay papers remained consistent with previous years. It’s a strong signal that candidates must rely on their own preparation,” Dangut said.

The examination was conducted between April 24 and June 20, 2025, while coordination and marking took place from July 3 to 21. WAEC also deployed a real-time digital scoring system to enhance the speed and accuracy of result processing.

Of the total candidates, 1,517,517 (77.06 per cent) had their results fully processed and released, while 451,796 (22.94 per cent) are still being processed due to technical issues, which WAEC assured would be resolved in the coming days.

On examination malpractice, 192,089 results — representing 9.75 per cent — are currently being withheld for offenses including the use of banned mobile phones and collusion. This is a slight improvement from the 11.92 per cent withheld

Diary of a math tutor
O ti su mi o, that was the whatsapp message he got on his phone.
He quickly dropped what he was doing to attend to it, obviously it was the result of her son.
The boy didn't do well in the exams, the tutor's methods were almost called to question, this made him angry, under the sun, rain and whatever the season, he had meticulously worked with this boy to get good grades but the results got worse and he couldn't point at what had gone wrong.
When asked him, he simply said "my dad would walk into the exam hall before we start any test and when I asked my classmates if they saw him, no one would affirm what I saw"
The tutor was mentally exhausted, So he told the boy's mum he was leaving and she pleaded for one more time.
The mental exhaustion stemmed from the fact that he always argued in our class and would want to eat during class after his school since the tutor doesn't teach him at school.
We agreed to have one more term with him but on the condition that his gadgets be retrieved from him and he writes a letter of commitment to the tutors plans and steps.
His mum agreed to the gadget retrieval but he kicked against writing me a letter and resorted to tantrums, when the tutor told him no classes until he saw the letter. He knew it was a dead end, he gave in and wrote me a letter rambling about how he is not liked
The tutor refused to attend to him either online or offline, he became frantic and wrote him a letter to the terms of the tutor.
Funny enough after resumption teaching him, we would tell him where the questions would come from and suggest he study and that's where the questions would came out both in the exams and tests.
Last week, the mum was casually asked how his results were " he came second in math beaten by only 1 mark" came the response..

Diary of a math tutor.
Today was interview and our organisation had a few slots to fill, he had arrived late as the applicants had to do some written tests before the oral interview.
Behold there was pandemonium as the janitor had misplaced his phone around the office, someone volunteered to call the line.
The phone rang and the janitor traced the sound of the ringing phone to the hall where applicants were waiting for the oral interview.
Janitor: Madam my phone is ringing here
Applicant: please look for it somewhere else it's not ringing here
Janitor: madam my phone is ringing in your bag...
Madam open your bag my phone is ringing.
Applicant: how did your phone enter my bag?
The applicant opens the bag lo and behold the phone is there
Janitor: madam this is my phone how did it leave the front desk to your bag.
Me: applicant can't get a job here.

Dairy of a math tutor.
He arrived at the venue of his class, his students had returned from boarding house for the summer holiday.
They didn't do too well and he understood them too well, they loved to play more than reading or studying.
He would put them to get grind these few weeks of holidaying, they would read sleep read and work at home.
The footballer would have to forego his training and the musician would have no studio time this period
They would not be the first failures to pass through his hands and they would be the last wanna be failures to pass through his hand AST it stands now they are still in the grace period. Next week their story will be different.

Diary of a math tutor.
The phone beeped, it was a message on whatsapp, he looked up from his workstation to see what the message was.
Good evening...., thank you for assisting .... In her math, I am so proud of her.
He too was elated his student had become the best in math for that class.
For the money and time she put in that girl deserves the award.
