OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL 2022
DATE: THURSDAY JUNE 2ND 2022
TOPIC: LOVE PROTECTS
MEMORISE:
“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” - (Romans 8:31)
READ: John 10:11-15 (KJV)
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
MESSAGE:
When Jesus was physically leaving the earth, He assured His disciples that he would never leave them, that He would always be with them until the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). This gives us - His disciples, great comfort. If He had not said until the end of the age, you would wonder if He was protecting us now from all the evil in the world. However, He said His protection will continue until the end of the age. He assures us in Isaiah 60:2:
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
Although there is much chaos in the world, there is no need to panic. If you are truly a child of God, Jesus already assured us in John 16:33 that although there may be tribulations in the world, we should be cheerful because He has overcome the world.
If anyone can testify about the protection of God, it is I. Many years ago, during one of our Holy Ghost services in Nigeria, as I got on the altar to preach, the Lord opened my ears and I heard a conversation going on between two witches who were preparing to launch an attack on my life at that moment. I announced that I could hear the two witches and if they did not want to die within 7 days, they should come out and repent. To the amazement of the congregation, the witches came out. In (2 Kings 6:14-17), Elisha’s servant was afraid when he saw an entire army surrounding them, ready to attack. Elisha however, was relaxed because he knew that the One protecting him was far greater than the army outside his city. He prayed for God to open the servant’s eyes and when the young man saw the number of heavenly soldiers who were on their side, he became relaxed too.
If you have been toying with sin, you have actually been toying with your life because the Good Shepherd will only protect His sheep. Only those who are truly children of God ate safe in the secret place of the Most High God (Psalm 91:1).
PRAYER POINT:
Heavenly Father, help me to continually dwell in Your secret place, so that I may constantly abide under the shadow of Your protection, in Jesus' name.

1 Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

Oh, deeper yet, I pray,
And higher ev'ry day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy word.
2 Deeper, deeper! blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will. [Refrain]
3 Deeper, deeper! tho' it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow. [Refrain]
4 Deeper, higher, ev'ry day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last. [Refrain]

DATE: WEDNESDAY JUNE 1 2022
THEME: LOVE GIVES
MEMORISE:
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1 John 3:16
READ:
Romans 8:31-37
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
MESSAGE:
In I Corinthians 13:13, faith, hope and love were described as ‘abiding’. The verse however, went further to say that love is the greatest amongst them. God loved us first before we could love Him in return (1 John 4:19). When a person has a good understanding of God’s love for him or her, it is as if a veil is removed from the fellow’s eyes; he or she would suddenly begin to love God in return and then become free from all the shackles of this sinful world. God loves us so much that He considers nothing too big to give to us. Romans 8:32 says:
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
If God could give us the greatest gift ever - His Son (John 3:16), nothing is too big for Him to give to you. Nothing! God gives to us because He is committed to loving us. He expects us to love our neighbours and give to them too. 1 John 4:21 says:
And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
How much do you love those around you? How much do you love your colleagues in the office? One day, a young man came for one of our Holy Ghost Services in Nigeria and saw his aunt in the middle of the crowd. He screamed, “Aunty, so you come here too? She said, “I just started coming” and he said, “Oh, I have been coming for many years now”. She became angry with him because he had found the light a long time ago but didn’t introduce her to Christ. She was furious that he didn’t warn her that she was on the way to hell.
Are you going to be heartless too and watch your family members go to hell? You have found the light, why not tell them about Jesus? Why not invite them to Church with you? Why not make it a duty to give them this devotional every year, hoping that even if they refuse to surrender their lives to Christ, one day God will lead them to read it and see something that will touch them there. If you truly love your neighbour, you will lead them to that gift that the Lord has given to you - salvation.
KEY POINT:
The greatest gift you can give to show someone that you love them is the gospel; don't hold it back.

WONDERFUL STORY OF LOVE
1 Wonderful story of love;
Tell it to me again;
Wonderful story of love;
Wake the immortal strain!
Angels with rapture announce it,
Shepherds with wonder receive it;
Sinner, O won’t you believe it?
Wonderful story of love.
Chorus:
Wonderful! Wonderful!
Wonderful!
Wonderful story of love!
2 Wonderful story of love,
Though you are far away;
Wonderful story of love;
Still he doth call today;
Calling from Calvary’s mountain,
Down from the crystal bright fountain,
E’en from the dawn of creation,
Wonderful story of love!
[Chorus]
3 Wonderful story of love:
Jesus provides a rest;
Wonderful story of love;
For all the pure and blest,
Rest in those mansions above us,
With those who’ve gone on before us,
Singing the rapturous chorus,
Wonderful story of love

THEME: GOD IS FAITHFUL IV
MEMORISE:
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Revelation 22:12
READ:
Mark 10:28-30
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
MESSAGE:
God’s faithfulness extends even to His promise to reward every man and woman according to their works.
This means that the fulfilment of Jesus’ second coming will be accompanied by the award of certain rewards. The implication of this is that those lazy believers who are not serious about the work of the Kingdom of God will live, though in heaven, to regret their idle life of 'holiness'. The apostle wrote that there will be great rewards for the ministers of the gospel who take care of the flock of God.
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
1 Peter 5:4
In our Bible text of today, we read about the positive response of Jesus Christ to Peter’s enquiry about what would become of their labour of following Him. The Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) assures all His followers of great rewards and above all, eternal life. This is the crux of the Christian faith - eternal life. Beloved, is eternal life your motive for following Jesus Christ? Don’t lose this eternal promise. The Bible further promises that believers in Christ shall have eternal life (John 3:16-18). However, there are categories of rewards after this life. Some may not even get anything. This is implied in the description of the work that we do while still in this body. Paul the Apostle wrote:
If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
1 Corinthians 3:14-15
Beloved, remember that God is not unrighteous to forget your labour of love (Hebrews 6:10). We must not be weary in well-doing because our reward is sure (Galatians 6:9).
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please keep me believing and serving so that no one else will take my reward in Your kingdom, in the mighty name of Jesus.

TOPIC: GOD IS FAITHFUL, PART 3
MEMORISE:
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” JOHN 14:3(KJV)
READ: JOHN 14:1-4 (KJV)
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
MESSAGE:
One of the promises of God which His faithfulness will bring to pass is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ gave a promise on behalf of the Holy Trinity that He would return to take His followers home according to the memory verse of today which is also part of our Bible text. It is unfortunate that many people and particularly some theologians are now saying that Jesus Christ will not return physically again! Beloved, if you are being carried away by this satanic teaching, please reconsider; read your Bible again. Do not believe this doctrine of the devil. God is faithful and will never make a promise that He will not fulfil. Jesus said, “...If it were not so, I would have told you...” (John 14:2). He knew that there would be scoffers, deceivers and doubters of His second coming. Beloved, I am declaring to you this day that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is coming back and very soon too. The angels corroborated the promises He made to His disciples on behalf of the Holy Trinity in Acts 1:10-11:
And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
The implications of the above Scripture are two-fold. One, those who think Jesus Christ will not be faithful to His promise of the second coming should think again. This is because when He eventually returns, they will be put to shame unless they repent. Two, those who will not believe in the faithfulness of God regarding Christ’s second coming will not get themselves ready and when they die in this unbelief, it will be too late to repent as it is appointed for man to die once, after which is judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
Everyone who surrenders their lives to Jesus and abides in Him will become a new creature. Old things will pass away, all things will become new and they will no longer struggle with sin (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Beloved, get prepared; live righteously through faith in Jesus Christ - the Son of the living God.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, please increase my belief in Your faithfulness, in Jesus’ name.

THEME: GOD IS FAITHFUL I.
MEMORISE: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Hebrews 6:18
READ: Deuteronomy 7:7 -9
7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
MESSAGE
There is only one faithful personality in the whole universe, and that is the Creator Himself. This is why, when He was to swear about His faithfulness to Abraham, He used no other personality than Himself. When we do a survey of God’s dealings with men of old, we would be left without any doubt that God is faithful. For example, God called Abraham out from his father’s house and promised that He would make him a great nation (Genesis 12:1-2). This was when Abraham was yet to have a child. When Abraham, like any human being, was becoming agitated and impatient, God went ahead to renew and increase the content of the covenant that came in the form of a promise.
After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward…And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
Genesis 15:1,5
These promises were fulfilled in Genesis 21:1-3 and Exodus 1:9-10 in particular, when the Egyptians became afraid of the population of the children of Israel. Pharaoh said to his people:
…the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: Come on let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come pass, that when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
Exodus 1:9-10
Beloved, God is faithful to His creation including the fulfilling of times and seasons(Genesis 8:22). He will be faithful to you if you will be faithful to Him as a child of God. Remember, what He said in Exodus 20:6 is still valid. Come to the One who promised us the coming of the Saviour and fulfilled it; your life will be transformed by His faithfulness, in Jesus’ name.
ACTION POINT
Thank and praise God for His faithfulness in all generations and to you in particular.

DATE: FRIDAY MAY 27 2022
THEME: REBUKE NOT AN ELDER
MEMORISE:
Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
1 Timothy 5:1
READ:
Proverbs 30:11-14
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
MESSAGE:
Sadly, the generation referred to in the Bible reading for today - a generation that curses their own fathers, is living right now in these present times. This is a generation that is puffed up with pride, believing that they know more than the elders; they even call themselves ‘woke’. I am not talking about this because I am an elder myself, but rather because I love you and if I keep quiet, I would be a wicked father watching his children heading for destruction. Indeed, although I have been criticized too many times, I must still say the truth as God has given it to us in the Bible.
Our memory verse today is a clear and divine instruction showing how the younger generation must honour elders. Many youths however, have various excuses for disrespecting and insulting elders. One of such excuses they give is that no one is perfect. They believe that even an elder can be wrong and corrected accordingly. That is correct; an elder can indeed be wrong, but while the Bible does not prohibit you from correcting him or her, it clearly says you should intreat such as a father or mother and not rebuke. When you criticize anyone in public, that is a rebuke (I Timothy 5:20); it is against the word of God when done to elders. If an elder has done something that you think is wrong, you could send him or her a message or write a letter stating politely what you think would have been correct; he or she would at least take cognisance of what you have said and make adjustments where necessary.
Also, in the Church, while the youths may feel they have a lot of knowledge and are very agile, you must still give honour to the elders. You shouldn’t just set them aside. You may have a lot of knowledge, but they are more versed in discerning the will of God. They have walked the path that you are walking and have a robust wealth of experience that you can gain a lot from. Give them the honour that they deserve. In fact, the Bible says that you should give them double honour.
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
I Timothy 5:17.
KEY POINT:
Honour your elders.

HYMN 26
WE ARE NEVER NEVER WEARY OF THE GRAND OLD SONG
1. We are never, never weary of the grand old song;
Glory to God, hallelujah!
We can sing it loud as ever, with our faith more strong;
Glory to God, hallelujah!
Chorus:
O, the children of the Lord have a right to shout and sing,
For the way is growing bright, and our souls are on the wing;
We are going by and by to the palace of a King!
Glory to God, hallelujah!
2. We are lost amid the rapture of redeeming love
Glory to God, hallelujah!
We are rising on its pinions to the hills above:
Glory to God, hallelujah!
[Chorus]
3. We are going to a palace that is built of gold;
Glory to God, hallelujah!
Where the King in all His splendor we shall soon behold
Glory to God, hallelujah!
[Chorus]
4. There we’ll shout redeeming mercy in a glad, new song;
Glory to God, hallelujah!
There we’ll sing the praise of Jesus with the blood washed throng;
Glory to God, hallelujah!
[Chorus]
SEEDS OF DESTINY
Gen 3:1-13
God made Adam in His Image and put both
him and Eve in the Garden of Eden - A beautiful place. The truth is, Lucifer had been in the Garden of the Lord before (Ezekiel 28:13-15). But when iniquity was found in him, he became satan and was cast out from heaven into hell. He was de-celestialised - he lost celestial capacity.
So, he became angry against Jehovah, and everywhere he saw Jehovah at work, he worked against Him. When God established man in the Garden of Eden, in anger against God, satan decided to spoil God’s Plan for man. In envy against man, satan must have said, “Who are you to inherit what I lost?”
The same satan was the one who came to Eve and gave her the counsel that brought about the downfall of the first human family and their offspring until Jesus came to redeem man. Beloved, there are people who come close to you, not because they like you but they see that what they could not be, you are, what they could not have, you have. So, they want to befriend you temporally in order to move you from your destiny. Eve was with the wrong person, his name was satan, the devil.
Beloved, your company affects your destiny. And your company can trigger your calamity depending on who that company is. Eve was also involved in the wrong conversation (Genesis 3:1). Any conversation that questions your conviction about God is jeopardizing your destiny, both in time and in eternity.
May the good Lord deliver you and keep you very far from the wrong association in the name of Jesus .
