Management of the Federal Polytechnic Bida has reiterated the ban on sale of handouts and textbooks by lecturers to students. Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi made this known during the matriculation of newly admitted students for the 2021/2022 academic session.
Dzukogi also restated the institution’s commitment to the strict enforcement of the ban on indecent dressing and conduct among students.
According to him, it was the responsibility of departments to use their resources to produce handouts for students, and not to force their students to purchase such handouts, especially against their wish.
“Where it is not possible to produce handouts using departments’ resources, the departments and students shall arrange on how best to get the handouts at the minimum cost,” he however clarified.
“Let me therefore emphasize here that sale of handouts and textbooks in any form is banned here. To this effect, students so compelled to buy materials are encouraged to report any breach of this directive to the appropriate authorities,” the Rector added.
He also warned that indecent dressing and conducts would not be tolerated on the campus, noting that the school management had already put punitive measures in place to check the menace.
Dzukogi further assured the matriculating students of his management’s commitment to their welfare through the provision of adequate social amenities and the expansion and maintenance of critical educational infrastructure.
“My administration has constituted a committee on indigent students funds where loans are advanced to students who have financial difficulties with payment of registration fees…so that they don’t become dropouts as a result of financial incapacitation.
“The management under my watch has lobbied and secured Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) intervention project for the construction of a female hostel beside the NICON Hostel. The project has commenced and will soon be completed,” he added.

The institution’s Director of Gender Issues, Hajiya Hussaina Hassan gave the assurance during the second annual sensitisation programme organised by the Directorate for newly admitted students.
“This office is assuring you that those who are found guilty shall be brought to justice. Call out for help when facing any sexual harassment either from academic staff, non-academic staff or your fellow students,” she stated.
The Director informed the gathering that the Directorate was established by the Dkukogi-led management to prevent harassment of and violence against both genders, and to give them equal access to opportunities.
“This office was created to help prevent harassment of women, men, boys and girls from happening and ultimately eradicate it from this institution,” she hinted, adding that “gender-based discrimination and violence will stay unless there is long-term commitment and shared action among various sectors including at community level,” she explained.
According to her, the annual sensitization programme was introduced as part of efforts to inspire change in attitudes and beliefs that promote gender-based violence and inequality.
Speaking at the occasion, Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi represented by Director, Special Duties, Engineer Wahab Adesina Abdulasalam, noted that the sensitization became necessary to encourage proper balance in women integration in work and homebuilding.
“There is no doubt that gender plays a significant role in promoting or retarding a society’s development process.”
“In this vein, this programme is organized to educate and sensitize us for better understanding of gender roles, especially for females, and how it contributes to national development,” Dzukogi stated.
According to him, the polytechnic had already put in place a policy on dress code, as part of measures to prevent gender-based violence on the campus, advising the students to imbibe the dress code, “as anyone found dressing indecently will be penalised.”
In his remarks, the Dean, Students’ Affairs, Alhaji Baba Shehu called on participants to shun gender-based violence, especially among men who considered themselves superior to women.

RECTOR PROMISES ADDITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE BEFORE END OF TENURE IN 2023
Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, Dr Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi has pledged to provide additional infrastructure for a more standardized academic atmosphere before the end of his tenure in 2023.
Dr. Dzukogi made this known during an assessment tour of the various projects initiated by his administration on campus recently. He said his administration would not rest on its oars until the polytechnic becomes the number one polytechnic before the expiration of his tenure in May, 2023.
According to him, the recent ranking of the Federal Polytechnic Bida by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) as the 5th best polytechnic in the country from the previous 12th position was due to recent developments and reforms put in place by his administration, adding that "the Polytechnic is not contented with its current 5th position, and must strive to attain the 1st position at all legal costs."
Dzukogi also noted that his administration was determined to consolidate on its moderate achievements in the areas of infrastructure, staff development and training, as well as staff and students welfare, saying" this administration has since surpassed the ones before it in terms of programs introduction and beneficial infrastructure records."
“We will consolidate on our achievements as we try to bring in more programmes on board. There is an expansion project going on now and several things that we did not have in this school before such as a Multipurpose Laboratory Complex, a CBT Centre, blocks of quality class rooms and lecture halls are now available to us. These are some of our treasured legacies. We will definitely not cease doing things that will develop the Polytechnic and by the time we are done with this position in 2023, in sha Allah, things will certainly not be the same after eight years,” he further remarked.
It would be recalled that, during his first tenure in office, Dzukogi initiated novel policies and programmes, including the introduction of degree programmes in affiliation with reputable universities, introduction of new academic programmes, and aggressive expansion of teaching and learning infrastructure, which stakeholders believe had since put the polytechnic back on the path of greater development and prosperity.
“When I came on board, I met four schools/faculties in this institution. But by the special grace of God, what we have now is eight schools which is indeed a
