Many people don’t know there’s something called Intubation in anesthesia.

It’s done immediately after we put a patient to sleep and paralyze the airway… at that moment, you’re deeply unconscious.

This is when the anesthetist gently inserts a laryngoscope blade into the mouth and passes a tube into the airway to secure breathing.

It may look simple, but timing is everything.
At this point, the patient’s airway is completely paralyzed, and if the procedure is delayed, oxygen levels can drop quickly (desaturation)… which may lead to brain damage or even de.

That’s why intubation is not for the untrained. It takes skill, speed, and precision.
Because in the operating room, every second counts.

And yes… that’s why after general anesthesia, you may feel weird swallowing….your throat remembers the tube that kept you alive.

Anesthesia and its Types (an overview) 🌟

Definition: Anesthesia is a medical treatment that eliminates or reduces pain during surgical procedures, medical procedures, or other painful experiences.

Types:

🟢 General Anesthesia 🟢

🔹 Induces unconsciousness and immobility
🔹 Used for major surgeries, emergency procedures, and patients with certain medical conditions
🔹 Administered through inhalation or intravenous injection

🟢 Spinal Anesthesia 🟢

🔹 Injected into the spinal fluid to numb the lower half of the body
🔹 Used for surgeries below the waistline, such as cesarean sections and hip replacements
🔹 Provides effective pain relief with minimal side effects

🟢 Epidural Anesthesia 🟢

🔹 Injected into the epidural space outside the sac that contains the spinal fluid
🔹 Used for pain relief during childbirth, surgeries, and chronic pain management
🔹 Can be administered as a single injection or through a continuous infusion

🟢 Peripheral Anesthesia 🟢

🔹 Numbs a specific nerve or group of nerves to provide pain relief
🔹 Used for surgeries on the arms, legs, and face
🔹 Can be administered through injection or nerve block

🟢 Local Anesthesia 🟢

🔹 Numbs a small, specific area of the body
🔹 Used for minor procedures, such as biopsies, skin lesions, and dental work
🔹 Administered through injection or topical application

Rapid sequence intubation (RSI) is a method for emergency tracheal intubation that involves the quick, successive administration of a sedative and a paralytic agent. It is the preferred method for critically ill or injured patients, especially those at risk of aspiration, to secure the airway quickly and safely. Key components include preoxygenation, a sedative agent for unconsciousness, and a neuromuscular blocking agent for muscle paralysis, followed by rapid laryngoscopy and endotracheal tube placement.

UNDERSTANDING ENDOTRACHEAL INTUBATION
