The department of Biochemistry was established in 2011 as part of the university's vision to promote excellence in science and research. However, the department admitted its first set of 57 students during the 2016/2017 academic session under the Faculty of Science. Since then, it has continued to grow steadily in both capacity and academic standards.

The department offers a comprehensive Bachelor of technology (B.Tech.) program in Biochemistry, designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the field .

Over the years, Biochemistry has become the most competitive and most sought-after course in the Faculty of Science at ATBU.
This is largely due to its relevance in various sectors including a team of qualified and dedicated academic and technical staff, the department continues to uphold the university's mission of producing skilled graduates.
