CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE 1.0

Sito Gbethrome Senior Secondary School, Seme Road, Badagry, Lagos State, is a Lagos State Government-owned academic institution founded in September 1980 by the administration of the late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande. The school was established to open up rural communities and bring secondary education closer to the people of Badagry West.

This citadel of learning, renowned as a reputable intellectual factory, has produced many outstanding individuals who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour. This remarkable achievement has been made possible through the dedicated efforts of diligent teachers and principals, beginning with the founding principal, Late Mr. Olajide, followed by Mrs. Bernice M. Konigbagbe—a living nonagenarian who celebrated her 90th birthday in February 2026—Mr. E. K. Kunkpe, and many others who are worthy of celebration.

Excellence is the product of consistent hard work. On Thursday, 11th June, the school held a Prize-Giving Ceremony to honour students who excelled in their academic pursuits during the last term's examinations. The award ceremony was designed to motivate all students and foster healthy academic competition among them.

The awardees received books and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance. The Proficiency Prize for the Overall Best Student was awarded to Miss Agosu Mariam Jesuyon, who distinguished herself by obtaining eight (8) distinctions.

The efforts of the committed and diligent teachers of the school are highly commendable. I express my heartfelt appreciation to all members of staff for their dedication and sacrifice in nurturing academic excellence.

This maiden edition of the Academic Excellence Award marks the beginning of what promises to be a greater and more impactful tradition in the years ahead.

On Tuesday 26th May,v2026; some ex-students of Sito Gethrome Senior Secondary School, Badagry visited the school, who are students of Lagos State University, Ojo, through their NGO presented awards, cash gifts and scholarships to some brilliant and amazing students of the school.

The ex-students had great time discussing with the management of the school on how to move the school forward and later had another productive engagement with the current students of the school on career choice and personal growth.

The students who were awarded were those who scored between 235 and 298 in their UTME exams and had won many prizes for the school and for themselves in various capacities. The awards serve as a push factor for other students to channel their efforts towards good behaviour and dedication to learning which was measured through the feedback mechanism adopted by the school management and the ex-students who visited the school.

The principal of the school; Mr. Sao A. J thanked the ex-students for the timely visit and appreciated their gesture in rewarding brilliance among the students in the time when most of students in the community are loosing focus as result of closeness to the border and lack of motivating factors. He used opportunity to encourage the ex-students to do more and help the school bring other ex-students on board to give back to their alma mater and encourage their young ones.
