1. Avoid familiarity with parents. It has ruined many.

2. Avoid being too playful with students. If they see you as being too playful, they'll never take you serious and it would cause you problems. You must have some level of firmness to be able to manage your classroom. It is a sign of incompetence if other teachers come to ask the students to stop making noise when you are in the class.

3. Mind your words when you address your students.

4. Carry yourself with pride. Dress well and smell nice. Make good hairs. This will give you an edge.

5. Even if you are poor, do not let your students think so, they will look down on you.

6. Never ask your students to lend you money, it is a step to downfall.

7. Do not join parents to speak bad of your school.

8. Do not gossip with your students.

9. Don't give assignments you can't mark.

10. Never eat your students food.

11. Prepare yourself before going for a class. It is a shameful thing for your students to keep correcting you in your own subject.

12. When a student asks you a question and you don't remember its answer, quickly throw it back to the class and afterwards tell them how important it is that they should know it. Make them take it home as an assignment. This will give you the chance to make research.

13. Quit that act of stopping over at parents house to charge your gadgets. In most cases it exposes you to ridicule.

14. Be professional about your home lessons; teach and get out of there it is not your home. Don't relax and watch television or even eat there, you are inviting disrespect.

15. Never let your students think you practise favouritism.

16. When any of your students is absent, call his or her parents to enquire, why?
Say: "Mommy Bukky, why was 'my child' absent in school today?" Referring to your student as your child is a professional way to earn respect from parents, not all those shameful familiarity attitude some of you put up.

17. Learn to be a time conscious person.

18. Master different teaching methods. Master when to apply each techniques. For example, story telling helps you to win the attention of your students if they are tired.

19. Build a strong personality, so that the children don't only comport themselves only when you are with the cane.

20. As a male teacher, never entertain closeness with your female students. When they come to you about not understanding a thing, do not be tempted to teach them privately. Follow her to the class, and tell the others about her question and remember to let the other students try to provide explanation. If you are able to do this, you will be able to avoid being accused of pa******le activities.

21. Be a hardworking teacher. Carry out practicals, take your students out for field work and excursions. Do not exploit them.

22. Never stop learning and improving yourself professionally. Be a life long learner.

Y2020 ACADEMIC SESSION: Lagos begins sale of Admission Forms

The Lagos State Examination Board has commenced the sale of forms for admission into the 16 State Model Colleges/Upgraded Junior Secondary Schools with boarding facilities for the year 2020/2021 academic session.

According to a release by the Director of the Board, Mr. Supo Gbadegesin, a screening test will be conducted for all applicants seeking admission into JSS1 in any of the 16 Model Colleges in the State.

He explained that the Screening Test is based on Paper Pencil Testing (PPT) and Computer-Based Testing (CBT) versions, adding that any candidate that passes the test and meets the required cut-off marks would be offered admission irrespective of his/her first or second choice of schools.

Gbadegesin stressed that only Primary Six pupils who will attain the ages of 10 and 11 years by June 2020 in both Public and Private Primary Schools are eligible to participate in the Screening Test.

The Director, therefore, implored the Parents/Guardians, Headteachers and Proprietors/Proprietresses in both Public and Private Schools to register their wards/pupils for a fee of N10,000 per head as from 13th January to 30th April 2020, adding that late registration scheduled for May 4 - 15, 2020 would attract a fee of N15,000 per candidate.

He disclosed that the Computer-Based Test (CBT) will be held at ICT Room, Lagos State Examinations Board from Monday 25th to 28th May, 2020, while the Paper Pencil Test (PPT) will hold on Saturday 30th May, 2020 at 43 designated centres across the State.

LASG adjusts year 2019/2020 school
closing/resumption dates

. . Gives Reasons, Says Only Primary Schools Are Affected

Lagos State Government has adjusted the 2019/2020 closing and resumption dates for schools in the State, emphasising that the new dates only affect public primary schools.

A statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy noted that the closing and resumption date earlier given for private schools and government secondary schools remain unchanged, hinging the change in dates for public primary schools on the need to implement extensive retraining of teachers and prepare them for the 2020 session.

"Please note that the curriculum of Lagos State private and public schools is not affected in any way by these changes and Lagos State will continue to implement her existing curriculum across the Stateโ€, the statement added.

The release, therefore, urged members of the public to disregard any misleading information contrary to the official statement.

Recall that the present administration had promised to invest heavily in capacity training for public servants, especially teachers, in order to make them realise its vision for a technology-driven education system.
