THE DILAPIDATED EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM OF AYAKOROMO COMMUNITY.
By: Lokiri Tamaraupreye Raymond
Ayakoromo Grammar school (A.G.S) was once celebrated and also known as one of the best school in Ijaw Nation and Nigeria at large. The school was well known for it's cultural heritage, teaching and learning, and old time standard structures (buildings).
A.G.S was also celebrated due to trophies it has won in all aspects of education e.g Cultural dance, debate and quiz competitions, sports, e.t.c in Burutu LGA and Nigeria.
I can vividly recall during my OND days at Ozoro polytechnic, when a woman (Isoko woman)came to my apartment in order to preach the gospel of Christ Jesus to us (myself and friends). As we were discussing, the ask of our tribe (Izon, which we told her) and also ask of the name of my Community (which I told her is Ayakoromo Town). Then the woman with heartfelt joy told me that, that was where schooled during her secondary days (then it was a boarding school).
When I got home I told my uncle of what happened in school and I was surprised that alot of persons from Isoko, Urhobo, Itsekiri, etc were also schooling here because of the good educational qualities the school has attained.
But right now the same school has being considered as one of the worst. It has lost its glory in every aspect of education.
Now people will be comparing schools in the city to schools in the village. Tell me how can you be expecting a student to perform academic miracles (to be brilliant) whereby he/she is studying under a dilapidated building (collapse building).
This is a school that has produced best students, political giants, Barristers, Engineers, etc in the country.
Therefore, I wish to use this medium to appeal to the Federal Government and it's agencies, State Government and it's agencies, Local Government and it's agencies, Non Governmental Organisations (NGO'S), Individuals, etc to help in restoring back its lost glory in anyway you can support.
My plea goes to mostly Ayakoromites (Ayakoromo indigenes) to contribute in anyway they can to make the educational system okay again.
Thanks and God bless you all.
LONG LIVE A.G.S
LONG LIVE IJAW NATION
LONG LIVE NIGER DELTA
LONG LIVE NIGERIA.......
