🚨 IMPORTANT TRAFFIC UPDATE

The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the First Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, to allow for emergency rehabilitation and maintenance works.

📅 Closure begins: Monday, September 7, 2026
📅 Expected reopening: Monday, September 21, 2026

The closure is necessary due to the deteriorating condition of the carriageway, as well as vandalism and damage to some bridge components.

🛣️ Alternative Route:
Motorists are advised to use the Second Niger Bridge, connecting through Obosi towards Asaba, Delta State.

🔧 The rehabilitation will include asphalt resurfacing and other safety and maintenance works, with plans for the installation of solar-powered streetlights and CCTV cameras.

⚠️ If you’re travelling through Onitsha during this period, please plan your journey ahead and allow extra travel time.
