The Boy Who Spoke To The River
In the ancient village of Oduka, there lived a poor boy named Chike.
Every morning, while other children ran to the farms with their parents, Chike would sit beside the great river that flowed through the village.
The villagers mocked him.
"Lazy boy!"
"Dreamer!"
"River watcher!"
But Chike paid them no attention.
One evening, as the sun disappeared behind the hills, he heard a strange voice.
"Why do you come here every day?"
Chike looked around.
Nobody was there.
The voice came again.
"Do not be afraid. I am the spirit of the river."
The boy trembled.
The spirit continued.
"Your heart is pure. I have watched you for years. Tomorrow, come back before sunrise."
That night, Chike could not sleep.
Was it a dream?
Or was the river truly speaking to him?
Before dawn, he returned.
The river was calm.
Suddenly, a golden calabash floated toward him.
Inside it were three shining cowries.
The spirit spoke again.
"Use them wisely. Wealth is not measured by what you keep, but by what you give."
Chike picked up the cowries.
His life was about to change forever.
