*Malpractice: WAEC unveils tough integrity measures for 1.9m candidates*

The West African Examinations Council has intensified measures to protect the integrity of the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE, as 1,959,636 candidates sit for the examination across Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

The Head of WAEC National Office, Amos Dangut, disclosed this during a news conference at the council’s national office in Yaba on Monday.

Dangut said that WAEC has strengthened its serialisation technology by ensuring that candidates receive questions in different orders, thereby reducing malpractice and preserving the integrity of examinations nationwide.

He said WAEC has also strengthened its question serialisation system to ensure that candidates receive questions in different sequences, reducing opportunities for collusion and malpractice.

This innovation ensures that no two candidates have the same question sequence, thereby upholding the academic and moral integrity of the National Policy on Education,” he said.

Growth boosters for schools:

Number 1: Qualitative teaching.

Parents pay for excellence. If your teachers are not improving, your school will not grow. Invest in training, supervision, and lesson structure.

Number 2: Parental relationship.

The way you treat parents matters. Greet them warmly, communicate clearly, and handle complaints with wisdom. A loved parent becomes a loyal parent.

Number 3: Visibility.....Be seen

If your school is excellent but invisible, it cannot grow.
Post your activities, your environment, your learners, your success stories — let people see the value you carry.

School growth is intentionally structured + excellence + visibility.

*WAEC Information*

*Summary of WAEC Briefing for Principals*

1. Candidates examination details for customised question papers must be strictly adhered to when distributing.
2. This year, the following subjects (English 1 & 3, Biology 1, Mathematics 1 and Economics 1) will be customised per candidate, meaning that each candidate will have a different question set customised alongside their OMR paper.
3. In a case where a student's customised paper is missing or not included, the supervisor is to issue the candidate an 'emergency question paper' and a "plain OMR sheet".

The implication is that no two candidates will have same question set.
Let's all encourage our children to work extra hard, especially those in exam classes. Days of dependence on examination malpractice will soon be over.

PARENTS’ FORUM VS. PTA:

THE RIGHT APPROACH

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was originally established for public schools. In Nigeria, according to the National Policy on Education, schools are categorized into Public Schools, Missionary Schools, and Private Schools. Private schools, operating as independent enterprises, do not require an association to manage their affairs. Instead, a well-structured Parents’ Forum is more suitable.

A Parents’ Forum serves as a platform to:

Educate parents about the school’s plans, expectations, and upcoming activities for the term.

Share insightful information on parenting, nutrition, and education to support children’s learning.

Provide clarity on school initiatives without being a place for complaints or discussions on non-payment of fees.

Concerns about a child’s academic progress should be addressed through scheduled meetings with the school, not at the forum. Open Days are designed for such discussions.

Regarding communication, a Parents’ WhatsApp Group should be strictly for official school information relevant to the students' well-being. It is not a platform for complaints. Parents with specific concerns should direct them privately to the appropriate school contact.

Effective communication fosters better relationships between schools and parents, ensuring a smooth and productive academic experience for the children.
