The Chairman, Dr (Mrs.) Rosalyn Essien, FICMC led delegation of Akwa Ibom State Branch of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) for a courtesy visit to the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Uyo, on Thursday 12th March, 2026.
The visit was part of our ongoing efforts to promote mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) among future legal professionals. We believe that building a culture of dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution begins with educating and exposing the next generation of legal minds to the value and practice of mediation.
It was a very engaging and insightful interaction with the Faculty, as we discussed ways to deepen awareness of mediation and encourage students to embrace ADR as an effective tool for resolving disputes.
We sincerely appreciate the warm reception and thoughtful contributions of Prof. Uwem Udok, Prof. Moji Eseyin, Associate Prof. Idorenyin Eyo, and Associate Prof. Eyak Ntekim.
It was truly an enriching and impactful engagement, and we look forward to continued collaboration in promoting mediation within the legal community.

*ICMC, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem Host Peacebuilding Workshop for Ukanafun Traditional Rulers*
The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Akwa Ibom State Branch, in collaboration with Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem (Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency), held a capacity-building workshop on *Peace Building and Conflict Management* for the Ukanafun Traditional Rulers Council on *Tuesday, 25th November 2025*.
Held at the Ukanafun Local Government Council Hall, the workshop gathered traditional rulers, village heads, youth presidents, and women leaders for practical sessions on grassroots peacebuilding and community conflict resolution.
Declaring the event open, *Dr. Rosalyn Essien*, ICMC Chairman, emphasized that “peace is the foundation for development” and commended Hon. Idem for his continued investments in community empowerment.
Facilitators *Dr. Kufre Essien* and *Amb. Otu Dennis, FICMC*, led sessions on conflict management and mediation as traditional tools for dispute resolution.
Participants received certificates at the end of the training, and in his vote of thanks, *HRH Akuku Amos Akpan* appreciated ICMC’s intervention, urging closer collaboration between legal professionals and traditional institutions for sustained peace.

ICMC PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO RT. HON. UNYIME IDEM, MEMBER REPRESENTING ORUK ANAM/UKANAFUN FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY
The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, led by its Chairperson, Dr. Rosalyn Essien, has paid a courtesy visit to the Member representing Oruk Anam/Ukanafun Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, to present to him the Humanitarian Award earlier conferred on him during the Institute’s 10th Anniversary Celebration and Commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Peace.
The visit, held at the lawmaker’s constituency office, was in recognition of his benevolent strides in philanthropy and humanitarian service, which the Institute noted are in harmony with the values of peacebuilding and social cohesion that ICMC promotes.
In her address, Dr. Rosalyn Essien lauded Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem for his consistent contributions to community welfare, empowerment, and development. She stated that the Institute was well aware of his numerous humanitarian projects which directly foster peace and stability within his constituency and beyond.
Dr. Essien also used the opportunity to propose a capacity-building training for traditional rulers within Oruk Anam and Ukanafun Federal Constituency. According to her, the initiative would equip community leaders with vital conflict resolution skills and mediation techniques to help them manage disputes more effectively and without bias.
The ICMC Chairperson further appealed to Rt. Hon. Idem to consider one of the Chapter’s executive members for inclusion in the next batch of the international training programme in China, sponsored by him.
At the conclusion of her remarks, the Humanitarian Award was formally presented to the lawmaker in recognition of his outstanding service to humanity and commitment to social development.
In his response, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem expressed deep appreciation to the Institute for the visit and apologized for his unavoidable absence during the anniversary event, explaining that he was engaged in an official function at the time. He noted that the timing of the visit was ideal, as key members of his constituency were present and would help relay the positive news to the community.
The lawmaker commended ICMC for its dedication to promoting peaceful coexistence and assured the Institute of his continued support, particularly in the proposed training for traditional rulers within his constituency. He also promised to consider sponsoring an ICMC executive member in the April 2026 training batch.
The meeting concluded with mutual goodwill and renewed commitment to collaborative efforts toward peacebuilding, leadership capacity development, and sustainable social harmony across the constituency.

ICMC PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE OFFICE OF THE FIRST LADY DESIGNATE, AKWA IBOM STATE
The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, on Friday, 31st October 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the First Lady Designate and Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Akwa Ibom State Government, Her Excellency, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, at Government House, Uyo.
The visit, led by the Chairperson of the Institute, Dr. Rosalyn Essien, was aimed at formally presenting the Humanitarian Award earlier conferred on the First Lady Designate during the Institute’s 10th Anniversary Celebration and Commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Peace, and to explore areas of partnership in promoting peacebuilding and social harmony in the state.
In her remarks, Dr. Rosalyn Essien commended Her Excellency for her outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, humanitarian service, and women’s empowerment. She reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to advancing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a peaceful mechanism for resolving conflicts and promoting social justice.
Dr. Essien further proposed a capacity-building partnership between ICMC and the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA); the First Lady Designate’s flagship project — to train women leaders across communities in conflict mitigation and resolution, equipping them with practical skills in negotiation, mediation, and dialogue facilitation.
In response, Her Excellency, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, expressed appreciation for the visit and applauded ICMC for its efforts in promoting harmony and non-litigious conflict resolution. She noted that the Office of the First Lady is eager to collaborate with the Institute to increase public awareness of ADR and strengthen peacebuilding initiatives across Akwa Ibom State.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of the Humanitarian Award to Her Excellency in recognition of her unwavering commitment to peacebuilding, women’s empowerment, and humanitarian service.

International Day of Non-Violence, 2nd October 2025
Today, as the world observes the International Day of Non-Violence, we at the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators Akwa Ibom State Branch proudly join in reaffirming our commitment to peace building, dialogue and reconciliation. This day, which honours the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, reminds us that Non-violence is not the absence of action but the pursuit of justice through peaceful means. As professional mediators and conciliators we recognise that conflicts is inevitable, but violence is not. Dialogue, emphaty and mutual respect remain the true instruments of resolution.
At ICMC, we continue to champion the values of Non-Violence by equipping individuals and Institutions with skills to resolve disputes amicably and foster unity in our homes, workplaces , communities and nation.
Let us all commit to being ambassadors of peace, knowing that non-violence is the pathway to a just and harmonious society.
As the Chairman of ICMC Akwa Ibom State Branch, I reaffirm my personal commitment to advancing peace and non-violence in every spheres of society.
