Heat Stroke In Poultry farming
Heat stroke is a serious medical condition that occurs when the body's temperature regulation system is overloaded, causing the body temperature to rise rapidly and excessively, usually above 40°C (104°F). It's a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate attention.
*Signs of Heat Stress:*
- Panting and rapid breathing
- Drooping wings and open-mouth breathing
- Lethargy and reduced activity
- Reduced feed intake and water intake
- Increased mortality
- reducing eggs production
Strategies to Overcome Heat Stroke in Broilers and Layers:
1. _Provide adequate space_: Ensure sufficient space for birds to move around comfortably, reducing crowding and heat buildup.
2. _Use heat-tolerant breeds_: Consider using breeds that are more resistant to heat stress.
3. _Improve litter management_: Keep the litter dry and well-maintained to reduce ammonia levels and heat stress.
4. _Use fans and cooling systems_: Install fans and cooling systems to circulate air and reduce temperature.
5. _Monitor bird behavior_: Watch for signs of heat stress, such as panting, drooping wings, and lethargy.
6. _Vaccination_: Consider vaccinating against diseases that can be exacerbated by heat stress.
7. _Nutritional adjustments_: Adjust feed formulation to include more energy-dense ingredients and electrolytes.
*Emergency Response:*
1. _Move birds to a cooler area_: Immediately relocate birds to a shaded or cooler area.
2. _Provide cool water_: Offer cool water for drinking and misting.
3. _Use wet curtains or misting systems_: Wet the birds and their surroundings to reduce temperature.
4. _Administer electrolytes_: Add electrolytes to the drinking water to replenish lost salts.
By taking proactive measures, farmers can reduce the risk of heat stroke and minimize losses.

BROILER VS LAYER CHICKENS: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE
Quick Answer: Broilers are raised for meat. Layers are raised for eggs. They look different, grow at different speeds, and need different care.

- Care: Need nesting boxes and light to keep laying.
Typically raised for 1 to 2 years
_ They converted feed into eggs production
- They are generally more active and flighty
MAIN DIFFERENCES
- Broilers =For Meat production | Layers =For Eggs production
- Broilers grow fast and heavy. Layers stay light and lay eggs often for some months
- Their feed, housing, and care are not the same. Layers are mostly raised in a battery cages system while broilers can be kept in a small rooms
