WORDS OFTEN MISUSED, MISREPRESENTED AND MISAPPLIED:
1. WE/WILL
2. BEEN/BEING
The words above are often mistaken for one another or inadvertently interchanged for one another. This mistake is not always deliberate as it may seem but an error on a recurrence is no longer an error but a mysterious habit.
Come along with me as I explain how to use or apply these words in order to earn a contextual balancing.
1. WE: This is a word classified in the speech therapy as pronoun. It is a;
(a) personal pronoun which refers to a person or people, in this case, the speaker and one or more people.
(b) first-person plural pronoun which includes the speaker and at least, one other person.
(c) subject pronoun which can be used as the subject of a sentence.
Examples in sentence:
(i) WE are going to the cinema.
(ii) WE shall be at the stadium tomorrow.
(iii) WE have come to tell you our minds.
Note: use WE when referring to yourself and others.
2. WILL: This is a very ambiguous word depending on the lexicon involved in its usage and pronunciation. While functioning as a verb, it can come as a:
(a) modal auxiliary verb, or:
(b) an auxiliary verb.
As a modal auxiliary verb, the word WILL is used to express modality indicating ability, permission or obligation.
E.g. You WILL understand much later(expressing ability).
As an auxiliary verb, it is simply used to express a future tense or possibility.
E.g. I will be there tomorrow.
Now, the word wiLL as used in the context of a noun bears a completely different meaning to what obtains as a modal or auxiliary verb.
Pay a close attention to the way I wrote the word wiLL. This means the later part of the word is carefully stressed to indicate a pronunciation difference with the verbal WILL.
As a noun, the world wiLL means a legal document containing very sensitive information.
E.g. Her father wrote his wiLL before his demise.
