Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started with Amazon Kindle publishing (KDP), which is one of the easiest ways to start making money on Amazon without physical inventory:
STEP 1: Decide What You Want to Publish. You have a few main options:
@ Fiction Books (romance, thriller, fantasy, etc.)
(b) Non-Fiction Books: (self-help, business, health, etc.)
(c) Children’s Books.
(d) Low or No Content Books: (journals, planners, notebooks)
(e) Educational Books: (workbooks, textbooks, etc.). Textbooks in any subject or in all classes (KG, Nursery, Pry1-6, JSS1 - SSS3) classes. Choose based on your interest, skills, or market demand.
STEP 2: Research Your Niche: This step is crucial to make sure people are actually looking for the kind of book you want to publish.
You can use Amazon to search for bestselling books or list.
You can also use tools like: (i) Publisher Rocket for keyword research. (ii) Google Trends. (iii) OR ChatGPT for brainstorming ideas
Look for books with: 1. Good rankings (Amazon Best Sellers Rank under 100,000), 2. High demand + low competition
STEP 3: You Have Three Option to Create Your Book:
1. Write the Book Yourself: If you're knowledgeable or passionate about a topic, this is a great choice.
2. Write your BOOK with AI
3. Outsource the Book: Hire freelancers on platforms like: Fiverr, Upwork, or Reedsy.
4. For low-content books, you can design them using Canva or Book Bolt.
STEP 4: Format Your Book: Amazon requires a specific format:
@ Text-based Books: Use tools like MS Word, Google Docs, or Scrivener and export to PDF or ePub.
(b) Children’s Books or Planners: Design with Canva, Adobe InDesign, or PowerPoint. Format both eBook or paperback versions.
STEP 5: Design a Great Cover using Canva, Book Bolt, or hire a designer on Fiverr. Make sure it’s eye-catching and professionally done because this can affect sales.
STEP 6: Create a KDP Account: Go to: kdp.amazon.com or https://kdp.amazon.com
@ Sign in with your Amazon account or create a new one.
(b) Complete your author profile.
(c) Add tax and bank information to receive payments.
STEP 7: Upload Your Book to Amazon KDP. You’ll need to:
1. Enter your book title and description
2. Choose keywords and categories.
3. Upload your manuscript and cover.
4. Choose between eBook, Paperback, or Hardcover.
5. Set your pricing and royalty rate. (typically 35% or 70% for eBooks)
STEP 8: Promote Your Book: Just uploading isn’t enough—now you have to market it on places like:
@ Social media: (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest) etc.
(b) Author website or blog.
(c) Amazon Ads (PPC).
(d) Use platforms like Goodreads, Facebook groups, and email lists to market or advertise your book.
