Ebola and Marburg Viruses.
This video will focus on the key aspects of Ebola, including its transmission through blood and body fluids, its clinical progression from initial symptoms like fever and headache to severe hemorrhaging and multiorgan failure, and the essential prevention strategies such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
It also includes a section on the Marburg virus to provide further clarification on its similarities and differences as a fellow filovirus.
The video is designed to serve as an informative tool for my Facebook audience, helping to raise awareness and encourage caution regarding the reports of Ebola in the region.
Let's dive into it.
Global HSE Careers & Insights
Connecting safety professionals to top-tier HSE opportunities in Nigeria and across the globe.
Is how we handle plastic putting our health at risk?
Let’s talk about the link between "nylon," microplastics, and cancer.
Watch my new video to see how a simple daily habit, like packaging hot fufu, chips, or bread in plastic bags, connects to a much bigger environmental and health crisis.
When we put hot food into plastic, dangerous chemicals leach right into what we eat. But the problem doesn't stop there. Because of poor waste management, those same plastics end up in our gutters, rivers, and oceans, breaking down into tiny microplastics.
Fish swallow these particles, and eventually, that plastic ends up back on our dinner plates. Inside the human body, these toxins cause inflammation and cell damage that can lead to cancer over time.
It is a dangerous cycle, but we can break it by:
Allowing food to cool before wrapping it, or using safe alternatives like leaves.
Properly disposing of our waste instead of littering or burning plastics.
Supporting better waste management in our neighborhoods.
What changes have you made to reduce plastic in your home?
Risk Assessment
Is your workplace as safe as it could be? Most accidents can be prevented if we know what "red flags" to look for before they cause harm.
In the video, I simplify the risk assessment process so everyone on the team can help identify hazards and stay protected.
Take a few minutes to watch and learn how we can work together to keep our site secure and get everyone home safely every day.
Excavation Safety and Cave-In Prevention Standards
This safety guide outlines the critical standards and procedures required to prevent dangerous cave-ins during construction projects. It distinguishes between excavations and trenches, noting that the latter are deeper than they are wide and pose a lethal risk due to the extreme weight of soil.
To mitigate these hazards, the text identifies essential protective measures such as sloping the ground, reinforcing walls with supports, or using protective shields.
Beyond structural integrity, the source highlights the importance of managing atmospheric hazards, heavy machinery proximity, and underground utilities.
Competent persons should conduct frequent inspections and classify soil types to ensure worker safety.
Ultimately, these protocols serve as a comprehensive framework for preventing fatalities and injuries in high-risk digging environments.
As a safety officer, training construction workers on the ABC of CPR is one of the most critical parts of a site induction or first aid course.
This responsibility is underscored by the fact, my opinion anyways, that every safety professional working on a development project is expected to have basic first aid training so that the individual can help in the event of a health/medical emergency.
In a high-risk environment like construction, where electrical shocks, falls, or crush injuries can occur, minutes matter.
While many people believe CPR is simply about the " kiss of life," as a safety professional, the goal is to share the real "ABC" essentials that every construction worker should know: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation.
Stop the Drop: Littering is a Crime!
Did you know that littering isn't just messy, it's a violation of NESREA's regulations?
To stay on the right side of the law and protect our environment, we must ditch the "throw-away" habit and follow the Waste Management Hierarchy:
Prevent/Reduce: Use less to waste less.
Ruse: Give items a second life.
Recycle: Turn waste into resources.
Recovery: Generate energy from waste.
Disposal: The absolute last resort.
Stop the menace. Start the cycle.
Mastering Fire Safety Essentials
This technical guide outlines the essential principles of fire safety specifically designed for health and safety experts.
It begins by explaining the Fire Tetrahedron, which identifies the four components necessary for combustion to occur and persist.
The material provides a detailed classification system for different types of fires, ranging from ordinary combustibles to specialized chemical and electrical hazards.
To mitigate these risks, the text details strategic control methods and specific techniques used to neutralize flames, such as cooling or smothering.
Furthermore, it establishes standardized emergency protocols, including the R.A.C.E. and P.A.S.S. frameworks, to ensure a coordinated response during a crisis.
Ultimately, these resources serve as a comprehensive roadmap for preventing, managing, and extinguishing industrial and commercial fires.
Stop the "Rabbiting": Safety in Thrust Boring
When ground pressure causes soil to heave or cave during boring, it’s a major red flag. On our water project, we don't take chances with rabbiting.
Safety is about more than just equipment, it requires the constant oversight of a Competent Person to identify hazards before they happen. In the video, I break down the essential defenses we use:
Bracing & Underpinning
Sloping & Benching
Shielding
No matter the scale of the project, ground stability is non-negotiable.
Watch the video to see how we stay protected on-site!
Your lungs don’t have a "reset" you’re failing your PPE.
Whether it’s fine dust, wood fiber, or toxic fumes, the air you breathe on-site determines your health forbutton.
Stop using basic masks for industrial hazards. If you’re still coughing after a shift, your PPE is failing you—or years to come. In today’s – Getting the straps right the first time.
2️⃣ The 5-Second Seal Check – How to know for sure you’re protected (Positive vs. Negative pressure checks).
3️⃣ Maintenance – Why a clean respirator is a safe respirator.
Don’t just "wear" your PPE. Master it.
I’m breaking down the 3M 6000 Series Half Facepiece Respirator—the gold standard for reusable protection.
What most people get wrong:
✅ It’s not just about wearing it; it’s about the SEAL. If air is leaking through the sides, you’re breathing in the very hazards you’re trying to avoid.
In this video, I’ll show you:
1️⃣ The "Donning" Technique the vacuum, not just the mask!
When was the last time you actually performed a Seal Check before starting work? Be honest in the comments!
Let’s keep our lungs healthy and our sites safe.
Pre-Audit Office Facility Checklist 🏢
Before the auditors arrive, ensure your physical workspace reflects your HSE standards. Start by designating a clean Document Control Center where all manuals and records are organized and ready for review.
The facility itself should "speak" safety: ensure the HSE Policy is prominently displayed, Emergency Exit maps are clear, and Fire Extinguishers are serviced and unobstructed. Finally, maintain top-tier housekeeping—clear walkways of tripping hazards and ensure waste segregation bins are properly labeled. A well-prepared facility proves that your management system isn't just on paper—it’s in practice. 🛡️
