🤔🤔Before you spend your November salary....

Remember that
1. You still have to balance your child's school fees
2. Your children teachers are depending on the school fees to feed their children
3. Christmas will come and go but January will come with another term bill.
Prioritizing is the key to responsible parenting...
Parents plan well

AHH… YOU ARE LATE AGAIN !!!
Tommy an eight years old in Adepeju nursery and primary school was panting heavily with tears in his eyes running and looking disorganized knowing fully well he was late to school and will be punished by his class teacher wishing he could fly as it has become an habitual occurrence… also knowing how he will face the mocking stares of his classmates and the usual welcoming chorus of “ Tommy , late comer”. …..
This is the story of many Nigerian children with parents who have the “African time” mentality….
Please and please …. Daddies and Mummies we can do better… if only we know the effects of late coming to school on our Treasures.. we will fight it with all our might.

Historically, the education system has prioritized cognitive learning (left-brain) over social-emotional learning (right-brain) for several reasons:

Cognitive Learning Emphasis:

1. Industrialization and standardization:
Education systems were designed to prepare students for industrial-era jobs, focusing on standardized knowledge and skills.

2. Academic achievement:

Cognitive skills (reading, writing, math) are easily measurable, making them a primary focus.

3. Funding and accountability:

Educational funding often ties to academic performance, reinforcing the emphasis on cognitive learning.

4. Traditional teaching methods:

Educators may be more comfortable teaching concrete subjects like math and reading.

Neglect of Social-Emotional Learning:

1. Misconceptions about "soft skills": Social-emotional skills were seen as secondary or "non-academic."

2. Lack of standardized measures:

Assessing social-emotional learning is more complex, making it harder to quantify.

3. Time constraints:

Packed curricula leave little room for "non-core" subjects.

4. Limited training: Educators may not receive adequate training in social-emotional learning.

Consequences:

1. Unprepared students:

Neglecting social-emotional learning leaves students ill-equipped for real-world challenges.

2. Mental health concerns:

Ignoring emotional intelligence contributes to rising mental health issues.

3. Disengagement:

Overemphasis on cognitive learning can lead to student disengagement.

Shifting the Balance:

1. Growing recognition of social-emotional learning's importance

2. Research on its impact on academic achievement and life success

3. Increased focus on whole-child education

4. Integration of social-emotional learning into curriculum standards

Right-Brain (Social-Emotional) and Left-Brain (Cognitive) Integration:

1. Interconnected learning: Incorporating social-emotional skills into cognitive learning

2. Project-based learning: Combining cognitive and social-emotional skills

3. Mindfulness and self-awareness practices

4. Emphasis on creativity, empathy, and critical thinking

Educators are starting to recognize the importance of balancing cognitive and social-emotional learning.

By integrating both, we can foster well-rounded, emotionally intelligent, and academically prepared students.
