The Department runs a four-year academic programme leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science in Geography and Planning Sciences. Today, there are over five hundred students in the Department, taught by thirty academic staff assisted by four administrative staff. Among the graduates already produced in the Department are one (Mr. Oyedotun) in the First Class and a host of others in
the Second Class (Upper Division). Most such graduates have already carved niches for themselves in various facets of human endeavour. The Department also runs a postgraduate programme, and recently graduated six M.Sc. holders whose results were approved by Senate. A member of the Department in the person of Dr. E. Ogunbodede recently became Associate Professor by promotion. He was also elected by popular vote to serve as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. Aribigbola also of the Department was appointed by the Vice Chancellor as the Acting Director, Institute of Part-Time Programmes.
