*STRATEGIC THINKING, LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES, AND ORGANISATIONAL TRANSFORMATION SKILLS: ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR SCHOOL GROWTH*

The difference between schools that are thriving and those that are struggling can often be traced to the presence—or absence—of three critical qualities in their leadership: strategic thinking, leadership capabilities, and organisational transformation skills.

In the age we live in today, schools can no longer depend solely on good classrooms, qualified teachers, or attractive buildings. While these are important, sustainable growth requires something deeper. School owners and administrators must possess the ability to think ahead, lead effectively, and continuously improve their organisations.

Any school owner who dreams of building a successful and enduring educational institution cannot afford to joke with these three qualities. They are like the three stones that support a cooking pot. Remove one, and the pot becomes unstable. Remove two, and cooking becomes impossible. Remove all three, and there will be no meal at all.

1. *Strategic Thinking*

Strategic thinking is the ability to see beyond today and prepare for tomorrow. It involves having a clear vision of where the school should be in the future and creating practical steps to get there.

Strategic thinkers do not merely react to problems; they anticipate them. They study trends, identify opportunities, and position their schools ahead of competitors.

For example, while some schools are still debating whether technology should be integrated into learning, strategic school owners are already implementing digital classrooms, online learning platforms, AI-assisted teaching tools, and modern assessment systems.

Strategic thinking helps school owners answer important questions such as:

- Where do we want our school to be in the next five years?
- What programmes should we introduce to attract more parents?
- How do we remain relevant in a rapidly changing educational landscape?
- What threats could affect our growth, and how do we prepare for them?

Schools grow when leaders stop focusing only on today's challenges and begin planning for tomorrow's opportunities.

2. *Leadership Capabilities*

Leadership is far more than occupying a position of authority. True leadership is the ability to influence, inspire, and guide people toward a common goal.

Many schools struggle not because they lack competent teachers but because they lack effective leadership.

A school owner with strong leadership capabilities:

- Builds a motivated workforce.
- Creates a culture of accountability.
- Resolves conflicts effectively.
- Inspires excellence among staff and students.
- Communicates vision and expectations clearly.
- Leads by example.

When leaders are weak, confusion spreads. Staff become disengaged, discipline weakens, and productivity declines.

However, when leadership is strong, teachers become more committed, students perform better, parents develop confidence in the school, and the institution experiences steady growth.

The success of any school is often a reflection of the quality of leadership guiding it.

3. *Organisational Transformation Skills*

The educational world is constantly changing. What worked ten years ago may no longer be effective today. Schools that refuse to adapt eventually become irrelevant.

Organisational transformation is the ability to lead positive change within an institution.

This includes:

- Improving systems and processes.
- Introducing innovative teaching methods.
- Adopting educational technology.
- Restructuring ineffective practices.
- Creating a culture of continuous improvement.
- Preparing staff for new realities and expectations.

Many schools fail because they continue operating with outdated methods while parents and students are looking for modern solutions.

Transformation-minded school owners understand that growth requires change. They are not afraid to review old practices, discard what no longer works, and embrace better alternatives.

Every thriving school today is the result of leaders who were willing to transform their organisations when necessary.

Continuous Learning Is No Longer Optional

The good news is that we live in an era where acquiring these skills has never been easier.

Thousands of books, articles, podcasts, videos, online courses, webinars, and educational resources are available at our fingertips. Artificial Intelligence has made learning even more accessible by providing instant guidance, ideas, and solutions.

The challenge today is not the lack of information; it is the willingness to learn.

School owners who invest in their personal development will always have an advantage over those who stop learning.

Conclusion

The school of tomorrow will belong to leaders who think strategically, lead effectively, and possess the courage and skills to transform their organisations.

As school owners, we must deliberately invest time in developing ourselves. The quality of our schools will never rise far above the quality of our leadership.

Let us commit ourselves to continuous learning and improvement. Our schools, our staff, our students, and our communities deserve leaders who are prepared for the future.

*Remember: schools do not grow by accident; they grow when their leaders grow.*

*Good day, the great Educators.*
Let me be very direct with you today.
The education space is no longer what it used to be. It is becoming highly competitive, fast-changing, and unforgiving to schools that refuse to evolve.
Every month, new schools are opening around you. And whether you like it or not, they are not coming to “try their luck”—they are coming to take your students.
So the real question is not whether there is competition.
The real question is:
👉 Are you building a school that can withstand it—or one that will be pushed out gradually?
Let me be clear: survival in this era is not accidental. It is strategic.
And the first major strategy is this:
👉 Dominate through ICT and systems.
If your school is still operating with outdated processes while others are beginning to adopt better digital tools, then you are already falling behind.
The schools that will dominate the next 5–10 years are not the ones doing “normal school work.”
They are the ones building systems, automation, communication structures, and learning experiences that others cannot easily copy.
You don’t compete by lowering your standards.
You compete by raising your level so high that competition becomes irrelevant.
Observe what others are doing—then go beyond it.
If others are using basic tools, you move to advanced systems.
If others are manual, you become digital.
If others are average, you become structured and data-driven.
Simple truth:
👉 You don’t survive competition by matching it. You survive by outgrowing it.
Now let’s talk reality.
Many new schools are financially weak. That is not an insult—it is a fact.
And it means they cannot sustain long-term investment in quality systems, structure, and consistency.
That is where established schools must position themselves wisely—not by attacking anyone, but by building an unshakable system of excellence.
History has shown this repeatedly. Strong names in industries disappear not because they lacked popularity, but because they refused to evolve.
And the same thing is happening quietly in the education sector today.
If you are not intentional, your school name can slowly fade into irrelevance—even if you are working hard daily.
Hard work is no longer enough.
👉 Smart structure is what wins now.
But let’s go deeper.
Your second weapon is your parents.
If you are not actively collecting and using feedback from parents, you are operating blind.
Parents will tell you exactly what they value:
• “My child is now more confident”
• “My child sings at home”
• “My child can now debate and speak better”
• “My child is improving academically and socially”
That is not casual talk—that is market data.
That is what you build on.
Schools that listen to parents grow faster. Schools that ignore feedback slowly lose trust.
And in education, once trust is lost, price becomes irrelevant.
Now listen carefully:
👉 Stop competing with school fees.
If your strategy is to reduce fees because other schools are opening nearby, then you are already losing strategically.
Low fees do not win long-term competition.
They weaken perception.
What wins is value.
Increase your standards.
Increase your delivery.
Increase your structure.
Increase your results.
Let your school become the kind that parents justify paying for—not negotiate over.
And understand this advantage clearly:
Established schools have something new schools struggle to build quickly:
• Trust
• Reputation
• Stability
• Access to support systems like financing and partnerships
That is your advantage. Use it wisely.
At the end of the day, this is not a casual market.
It is monopolistic competition at a serious level.
And in this kind of environment, only two types of schools survive:
• Those that react
• And those that dominate
Choose your position wisely.
Because in the coming years, schools will not disappear suddenly…
They will slowly fade—until nobody notices they were ever strong.
Don’t let that be your story.
Build systems. Build structure. Build authority.
And most importantly—build a school that cannot be ignored.
Thank you and happy democracy day!

*THE POWER OF DIGITAL VISIBILITY FOR SCHOOLS*
A few years ago, I added the contact address and phone number of a school to Google Maps and optimized its online presence. Today, that school has recorded over 80,000 views on Google Maps alone.
Now, does that mean all 80,000 people will enroll their children in the school? Certainly not.
However, it means that over 80,000 people now know that the school exists. More importantly, those 80,000 people can share the information with friends, relatives, colleagues, neighbors, and countless others. Before long, the awareness created can spread to hundreds of thousands or even millions of people.
Not everyone who discovers your school online will immediately become a parent in your school. Some may not even have school-age children yet. But a certain percentage will eventually need educational services, and when that time comes, your school will already be in their minds.
That is how business growth and expansion work.
Visibility creates awareness. Awareness creates interest. Interest creates inquiries. Inquiries create admissions.
The most interesting part is that this exposure continues to work for you day and night. While you are sleeping, teaching, attending meetings, or handling administrative duties, your school's information is still being seen by prospective parents online.
Many school owners spend heavily on advertisements yet overlook simple digital tools that can continuously market their schools at little or no cost. Google Maps, social media platforms, school websites, online directories, and proper search optimization have become indispensable tools in today's educational system.
We are no longer in an era where a school can depend solely on signboards, handbills, and word-of-mouth referrals. Parents now search online before making decisions. If your school is not visible online, you are silently losing opportunities to schools that are.
Ladies and gentlemen, these tools work like magic when properly utilized.
Let us help you position your school for greater visibility, stronger credibility, wider reach, and increased enrollment at a relatively low cost.
The future belongs to schools that are visible.
If your school is not yet properly represented online, now is the time to act.

*How Your Small School Can Compete and Thrive Against Big Mega Schools*

Many *small* school owners often feel intimidated when they see the size, buildings, and resources of large mega schools around them. It is easy to think that competing with them is impossible. But history has shown again and again that size alone does not determine success.
In fact, some of the biggest companies in the world today started very small and defeated organizations that were once considered unbeatable.

Think about it for a moment.
How did *Netflix* , once a small startup, disrupt and eventually destroy the movie rental empire of *Blockbuster LLC* ?

How did *Uber* transform the entire taxi industry across the world?

How did *Microsoft* with its Microsoft Encarta bring down the more than *200-year* legacy of *Encyclopaedia* Britannica?

How did a *young startup called Google* eventually dominate the core business that once made *Yahoo* famous?

How did *Sam Walton* build Walmart into a giant that crushed its once-powerful rival *Kmart* ?

And today, why does *Walmart* pay so much attention to the growing influence of *Amazon* ?

The lesson from all these stories is very clear:
Small *players* win not with size, but with *strategy* .

🧠 *Brains* , Not Physical Strength

When small businesses defeat giant organizations, it is never because they had *bigger buildings* , more staff, or deeper pockets.
They win because they *think differently.*

They use their *brains* instead of *physical strength* .
Behind almost every “ *David versus Goliath* ” story in business, there is one common factor:
*Strategic innovation* .

*What Strategic Innovation Means* :
Strategic innovation means finding *smarter* ways to operate instead of simply trying to do the *same things* bigger organizations are already doing.

It can come in many forms:
• Technological leverage – using technology to simplify processes and reach more people.
• Distribution leverage – delivering services faster and more conveniently.
• Talent leverage – empowering people with the right tools and systems.
• Financial leverage – managing resources efficiently.
• Tax leverage – optimizing financial structures.
• Branding leverage – creating a unique identity that stands out.
When small organizations use these intelligently, they can compete effectively even against giants.

*What This Means for Small Schools*
For school owners, the message is simple:
If your school is small, do not try to *compete* with mega schools using their own *weapons* .
You may not have:
• huge buildings
• massive infrastructure
• large marketing budgets
But you can *compete* using innovation, creativity, and smart systems.
For example:
• adopting digital learning tools
• implementing efficient school management systems
• using modern CBT platforms
• improving communication with parents
• providing *unique* academic experiences for students
These strategies can make a small school *more efficient* , more modern, and more attractive than even larger schools.
⚠️ When Your School Is *Struggling*
If your school is facing difficulties, the solution is *not* always to work *harder* .
Sometimes the real solution is to *change* the *strategy* .
Never try to fight a *giant* by using the *same* methods the giant already *dominates* .
Instead:
• think differently
• innovate creatively
• surprise the competition

*Final Thought*
In business, in education, and in life, victories are rarely determined by size alone.
They are determined by strategy.
Remember: *Strategy wins wars.* 💡

*ENFORCEMENT OF THE USE OF WHAT YOUR SCHOOL ALREADY HAS*

One of the most important aspects of acquiring anything is ensuring that it is *properly and consistently used after procurement* .

Over the years, I have observed a trend in many schools which I call "the abandonment of vital tools." The problem is often not that schools are unwilling to spend money on modern facilities, technologies, software, or systems that can transform their operations. In many cases, the tools are purchased, installed, and function perfectly well. The real challenge begins after some time when their usage gradually declines until they are eventually abandoned.

Many staff members have studied this pattern closely. They have noticed that some school owners introduce a new system, enforce its use for a term or two, and then shift attention elsewhere. As a result, they do not resist new initiatives anymore. They simply wait for the period of enforcement to pass, knowing that sooner or later the tool will be neglected like many others before it.

I wrote about this issue a few years ago and described it as *one of the silent killers of school progress.*

To be fair, school owners are often *overwhelmed* with numerous *responsibilities* . There are admissions to monitor, finances to manage, parents to satisfy, staff matters to address, and countless other issues competing for attention. _However, the fact remains that the ultimate responsibility for the direction of the school rests on the proprietor's table._

One thing I must commend is that many of the schools we work with have developed a culture of enforcing the use of every system and tool introduced into their operations. Among those doing exceptionally well in this regard are Dwat Schools, Ifo; Royal Prince and Princess School, Sango; The Seed of Life School, Ibadan; Higher Ground Mega Schools, Ibadan, and several others(If I don't mention your school, don't crucify me, I often work with measurable data).

These schools understand a simple principle:

It is not enough to spend money acquiring a solution. Real value comes from the consistent and effective use of that solution.

Benefits of Proper Utilization

When schools consistently use the tools and systems they have acquired:

✅ Productivity increases.

✅ Teachers become more accountable.

✅ School records become more accurate and easier to retrieve.

✅ Management decisions become data-driven rather than based on assumptions.

✅ Parents gain greater confidence in the school.

✅ The school obtains maximum returns on its investments.

✅ The institution develops a culture of excellence and professionalism.

✅ Growth becomes measurable and sustainable.

Effects of Constant Abandonment

On the other hand, continuously abandoning systems and initiatives has serious consequences:

❌ Money is wasted on investments that never deliver their full value.

❌ Staff develop a habit of resisting change.

❌ Future innovations become difficult to implement.

❌ School operations become inconsistent.

❌ Accountability weakens.

❌ The school remains stagnant despite repeated spending.

❌ Management loses credibility whenever new initiatives are introduced.

❌ Progress becomes slower than it should be.

The Way Forward

1. Build systems around your school, not around individuals.

2. For every new tool or initiative, appoint a monitoring committee or responsible officers.

3. Train them thoroughly on how the system should be used.

4. Hold the head of the committee accountable rather than chasing everyone individually.

5. Establish clear performance indicators for proper usage.

6. Attach monetary rewards to excellent implementation and meaningful sanctions to negligence.

7. Do not focus only on misuse; pay equal attention to non-use. A tool that is never used is often more damaging than one that is occasionally misused.

8. Introduce periodic audits to measure usage levels and compliance.

Attach Responsibility and Penalties

Every tool, software, policy, or system introduced in the school should have a designated officer responsible for its implementation.

Where a system is abandoned without valid reasons:

- The responsible officer should provide written explanations.
- Repeated negligence should attract financial penalties or loss of performance incentives.
- Consistent and effective implementation should attract bonuses, recognition, and promotion opportunities.

People naturally pay attention to what is monitored, rewarded, and sanctioned.

Conclusion

A school cannot continue spending money on facilities, software, training, and systems without ensuring their effective utilization.

Buying is not the achievement.

Installation is not the achievement.

Launching is not the achievement.

Consistent usage is the achievement.

The schools that move ahead are not necessarily those that buy the most tools; they are the schools that make the best use of the tools they already have.

Think about it and adjust immediately.

*Smart Staff Attendance & Payroll Management System*

Our Staff Attendance & Payroll Management App is a modern solution designed to simplify staff attendance monitoring and salary processing for schools and organizations.

The application is available in both online and offline versions:

- Online Version – works with internet access and syncs data in real time.
- Offline Version – works without internet and continues recording attendance locally, making it ideal for areas with unstable connectivity.

Attendance Management

Staff members can conveniently clock in in the morning and clock out at closing time using their mobile phones by simply scanning a QR code. The process is fast, easy, and user-friendly.

The system automatically records:

- Clock-in time
- Clock-out time
- Late arrivals
- Early departures
- Overtime attendance (where applicable)

Because attendance is captured digitally and instantly, records are accurate and reliable.

Automatic Late Coming & Time Deduction

The app intelligently detects:

- Late coming
- Early clock-out
- Absenteeism
- Overtime work

Where policies allow, the system can automatically calculate salary deductions for:

- Staff who resume late
- Staff who leave before closing time

It can also calculate overtime payments for staff who work beyond normal hours.

This removes manual calculations and ensures fairness and transparency.

Integrated Payroll System

The attendance app is directly connected to a full payroll management system, allowing it to perform two key functions:

1. Staff Attendance Monitoring

Track daily staff attendance accurately and in real time.

2. Payroll Processing

Manage staff salaries from attendance records automatically.

The payroll module handles:

- Monthly salary computation
- Attendance-based deductions
- Overtime additions
- Allowances
- Salary summaries
- Payment schedules

At the end of every month, the system can generate a payment schedule/report that can be sent directly to your bank officer for onward payment into staff accounts.

Reports & Analytics

The system provides easy access to different reports based on the data entered.

Available reports include:

- Daily staff attendance reports
- Late coming reports
- Absentee reports
- Early clock-out reports
- Overtime reports
- Monthly payroll reports
- Staff payment schedules
- Salary summaries

These reports are easy to generate, easy to read, and simple to interpret.

Accountability & Discipline

The app encourages punctuality, accountability, and discipline among staff.

Because attendance is captured personally through each staff member’s phone:

- staff cannot sign for one another
- records cannot be altered manually
- attendance manipulation is drastically reduced

Unlike traditional attendance machines that can be intentionally damaged or avoided, this mobile-based system is harder to bypass.

Unlike paper attendance registers that are prone to manipulation, the app creates secure and traceable digital records.

Benefits

With this solution, schools and organizations can expect:

- Improved punctuality among staff
- Reduced lateness and early departures
- Better accountability
- Transparent payroll calculations
- Accurate attendance records
- Less administrative workload
- Faster report generation
- Reduced payroll errors
- Increased productivity
- Better management oversight

Most importantly, the system helps recover valuable work hours that are often lost to lateness and early clock-outs, improving overall operational efficiency.

One of the *cultures gradually fading away from our classrooms today is one of the very things our students need the most* — the culture of giving *assignments* .

It is *painful* to see how we got to this point.

*Assignments* are *powerful* learning *tools* . They help *students understand* *better* , *retain* *more* , and *practice what they were taught in class* . When given immediately after a topic is taught, they strengthen assimilation and make learning stick.

Sadly, many children today leave school and spend the rest of their day on television, football, phones, and endless distractions because there is little or nothing tying them back to their studies after school hours.

Yet we all know the difference.

Schools that give daily assignments, weekend assignments, and even holiday assignments — and whose teachers deliberately mark and grade those assignments — often produce students who perform far above others academically.

Children naturally do not always choose serious study after school on their own. They need guidance, structure, and consistent academic engagement.

Many of us can still remember our own school days. The fear of punishment for not doing assignments was enough motivation to make us sit down with our books, sometimes late into the night. That discipline helped shape our study habits. It kept us close to learning beyond the classroom walls.

But today that culture is gradually disappearing.

Some schools no longer give assignments at all. Some give them casually without follow-up. Some teachers do not mark them. Some do not grade them. And when assignments are not checked, students stop taking them seriously.

The culture of assignment should not disappear.

Assignments should be:

- Daily — light but consistent
- Weekend — broader and more reflective
- Holiday — more engaging and extensive

This is why we have repackaged our Online Assignment App specially for schools using our system.

With it, schools can now easily:
✅ Give assignments to students after school
✅ Schedule weekend and holiday tasks
✅ Make assignments accessible from anywhere
✅ Mark and grade with ease
✅ Track student participation and performance

This tool helps both the teacher and the student.

For teachers:

- Assignment setting becomes easier
- Marking becomes faster
- Grading becomes organized
- Performance tracking becomes clearer

For students:

- They remain academically engaged after school
- Study becomes part of their daily routine
- Learning continues beyond classroom hours
- They build stronger reading habits
- Their academic performance improves over time

Our goal is simple:
To shift our children from spending every free hour in front of screens… to spending meaningful time engaging with learning.

This is a wake-up call to schools to return to one of the strongest traditions that once made academic excellence possible — the consistent culture of giving assignments and following them up seriously.

Let us remember:
What we do rightly today will speak loudly tomorrow.

The students sitting in our classrooms today will become tomorrow’s doctors, engineers, architects, teachers, leaders, and decision-makers.

The engineer in your classroom today may be the one building bridges and houses tomorrow.

Will those structures stand strong for years…

Or collapse because we failed to train him properly?

The answer begins with the little habits we build now.

So the real question is:

How many of us truly want the best for our children?

If we do, then we must return to doing the right things — consistently, deliberately, and seriously.

And giving meaningful assignments is one of them.
Walk with Opewins and become a *winner*

27/05/2026

In order to be *counted* among *exclusively* *unique* schools, you must be willing to *pay* an *exclusively* *unique* *price* .

Let us be sincere with ourselves—anything *truly good costs more* . That is simply the *price of quality* . That is the *price of standing out* .
If you *want* your school to *rise above the crowd* around you, then you *must be ready to use what the crowd is not using* . And *most times* , what the *crowd is not using is expensive* . *Why* ? Because *not everyone can afford it* .
Anytime you hear about an application that costs *₦10,000* or thereabout, look around your environment and see how many schools are already using it. Plenty. Very many. The truth is—what everybody has can hardly make anybody special.
Our elders said it long ago, and their words still stand:
“ *Owo ni pa obe to dun* .” — The soup that tastes sweet is funded with money.
“ *Ogùn tí a kò náwó sí, eyin aro lo mangbe* .” — What you do not invest much into will rarely produce uncommon results.
These proverbs carry deep wisdom.

For your information, our applications are not built for schools that want to *remain ordinary* . They are built for schools that *deliberately want to position themselves as different* … *visible* … *exceptional* .
Our goal is to build *systems* that make your school *stand out* in the crowd.
I have seen this reality with my own eyes:
A school with about 630 students was generating roughly ₦24 million per term, and their expenses almost swallowed everything—sometimes even exceeding it.
Then another school with just 320 students was generating about ₦74 million per term, while maintaining expenses around ₦24 million.
How does a school with almost half the student population make far more income?
The difference is positioning.
The difference is value.
The difference is uniqueness.
That school chose to move beyond the common level. They embraced systems, structure, and tools that are not common among the crowd—and the results became obvious.
So when some schools complain about our pricing, I honestly do not worry too much. Because I understand something:
Not every school is ready to be unique.
Some are comfortable staying where everybody is.
Some are satisfied with average.
But for the schools that want to be seen differently, operate differently, and earn differently—we are here for them.
Quality and cheapness rarely move together.
Quality and price often walk hand in hand.
If you want a cheap solution, there are many everywhere.
But if you want a system that positions your school for uniqueness, growth, and stronger value perception—then that is a different conversation entirely.
Final Note:
To make the business of running a school more rewarding, position your school among the unique schools.
That is where the real value is.
That is where parents willingly pay more.
That is where your school commands respect without begging for attention.
And when you walk with Opewins, we certainly win together.
