Our History
BOMAK Nursery and Primary School was established on 14 April 1986 by a dynamic, reputable, hardworking and God fearing educationalist, Mrs Solabomi Akiyode (nee Ogutuga). The need to start a reputable school came out of Mrs Akiyode’s vision and desire to provide education for children of mainly low income earners, whose children roamed the streets because there were no schools for them in the immediate vicinity, and their parents had no car to transport them to popular distant nursery schools. As a long term resident and highly respected property owner in the area, Mrs Akiyode then surveyed her neighbourhood. The survey confirmed that many under age children were left to roam about the streets, play around or forced to sleep indoors while their parents went to work in the morning. Some of the residents requested and encouraged Mrs Akiyode to start a school. She thereafter retired as headteacher at a government school after serving the government and working within the private educational sector for over twenty seven years. It is with such call and the urge to provide for the community that BOMAK Nursery and Primary School was founded. Mrs Akiyode wanted to combine her own quota to elevate the educational standards in the society with her experience as an educationist. Residents of this area are mainly very low income earners, disadvantaged and less privilege. Providing quality first class education with very affordable fees structure without compromising on excellence was still of great importance to Mrs Akiyode. BOMAK (formed from the Proprietress / Founder’s name) Nursery & Primary School opened on the 14th of April 1986 with five boys and two girls, making seven children on the roll. One teacher was employed, in person of Mrs O Ayeni and a cleaner Mrs A Oladele. Amongst the pioneering children were Mrs Akiyode’s son, nephew and niece; who are now qualified professionals in their various fields (information technology, health & business). BOMAK children remain unbeatable in external examinations and extra-curricular activities.
