FIRST LADY COMMISSIONS TETFund ICT EXPERIENCE CENTRE AT FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, OKO

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday commissioned the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Experience Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the Polytechnic, was witnessed by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo; his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo; the Chairman of TETFund Board of Trustees, Alhaji Aminu Masari; the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mr Sonny Echono; and other distinguished guests.

Established as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, the centre will serve as a hub for hands-on learning and innovation, equipping beneficiaries with essential skills in digital technology, software development, data science, multimedia, e-learning, entrepreneurship and other emerging fields, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Senator Tinubu described the Centre as a major investment in the digital future of Nigerian youths, noting that it would equip students and lecturers with critical digital skills in areas including Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, robotics and software development.

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Masari disclosed that the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, was one of six institutions selected nationwide as pioneer beneficiaries of the ICT Experience Centre project. He explained that the projects, approved under TETFund’s 2024 intervention activities, were implemented across the six geopolitical zones. According to him, the intervention underscores the growing importance of technology in education and national development, while also supporting programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The TETFund Executive Secretary, Mr Sonny Echono, described the Centre as a strategic investment in human capital development and the future of Nigerian youths. He said the initiative aligned with TETFund’s commitment to building Nigeria’s human capital and advancing a knowledge-driven economy.

Earlier, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie, described the project as a landmark achievement for the institution. She said the Centre would provide students with opportunities for digital skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, innovation, access to educational resources and networking.

Dr. Awuzie said the ICT Experience Centre, alongside the Chemical Engineering Building and Students’ Examination Centre, underscored the impact of TETFund’s interventions at the polytechnic.

The Rector further expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and TETFund for the intervention, while appealing to the First Lady and other stakeholders for urgent assistance in addressing some of the challenges confronting the Polytechnic, particularly the threatening erosion affecting parts of the institution’s environment.

The commissioning of the ICT Experience Centre marks another significant milestone in the Federal Polytechnic, Oko’s drive towards technological advancement, innovation and the development of globally competitive graduates.

A SYMBOL OF TRANSFORMATION: GEMADE COMMISSIONS FEDPOLY OKO MONUMENT, COMMENDS AWUZIE

…Hails Rector’s Transformation Drive, Pledges Council’s Continued Support

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, has unveiled another striking symbol of its institutional identity and transformation as the Chairman of the 12th Governing Council, Senator Egr. Dr. Barnabas Gemade, commissioned the newly constructed Polytechnic Monument at the institution’s main entrance.

The commissioning ceremony, held amidst excitement and a strong sense of institutional pride, marked the formal unveiling of the imposing structure, which now serves as a distinctive landmark and a visual representation of the identity, vision and aspirations of Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

The Monument was executed through the Polytechnic’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) under the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, as part of the administration’s deliberate efforts to improve the physical outlook of the institution while strengthening its infrastructure and institutional identity.

Representing the Governing Council Chairman at the ceremony, Comrade Chibuzo A*omugha, a member of the Council, conveyed Senator Gemade’s congratulations to the Rector, Management, staff and students of the Polytechnic on the successful completion and commissioning of the project.

Senator Gemade described the Monument as more than a physical structure, noting that it symbolises the vision and mission of the Polytechnic and reflects the institution’s aspiration for growth, excellence and enduring relevance.

He commended the Rector for her commitment to the development of the institution and assured the administration of the continued support of the Governing Council in advancing initiatives aimed at repositioning Federal Polytechnic, Oko for greater achievements.

Speaking at the occasion, the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, expressed appreciation to the staff and students for their support, cooperation and commitment to the administration’s development agenda.

The Rector noted that, within a relatively short period, her administration had embarked on a comprehensive transformation programme touching virtually every critical aspect of the Polytechnic, including infrastructural renewal, academic development, student welfare, security, enterprise development and the revival of abandoned or moribund facilities.

Highlighting some of the interventions, Dr. Awuzie disclosed that her administration had successfully reactivated the Polytechnic Water Factory and Bakery, restoring them to productive use and strengthening the institution’s internally generated revenue base.

She further disclosed the resuscitation of the Polytechnic Printing Press, as well as the construction of a Staff Sports Club and Guest House, providing facilities designed to enhance staff welfare and institutional hospitality.

The Rector also listed the construction of the Geological Technology Department Building among the administration’s major infrastructural interventions, alongside the construction of a Medical Centre at the Ufuma Campus, which is expected to enhance healthcare delivery and improve access to medical services for members of the Polytechnic community.

Other notable interventions, she said, include the reduction of school fees and several ongoing initiatives targeted at improving teaching and learning, student welfare and the general environment of the institution.

The commissioning of the Monument therefore represents not only the completion of a physical project but also another visible testament to the administration’s ongoing efforts to transform Federal Polytechnic, Oko into a more functional, aesthetically appealing and development-oriented institution.

The event brought together members of the Governing Council, Principal Officers, management staff, staff and students, who witnessed the unveiling of the new landmark with enthusiasm.

RECTOR MOVES TO SHOWCASE FEDERAL POLY OKO CREATIVE TALENTS, INAUGURATES FASHION AND ARTS GALLERY COMMITTEE

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has taken another step towards promoting the creative talents and artistic works of the Polytechnic community with the inauguration of a committee to oversee the institution’s Fashion and Arts Gallery.

The committee was inaugurated on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Rector’s Office, with a mandate to develop the gallery into a vibrant platform for showcasing the creativity, craftsmanship and innovative works emerging from the Polytechnic.

Inaugurating the committee, the Rector underscored the importance of giving greater visibility to the artistic and creative accomplishments of staff and students, particularly those of the School of Arts, Design and Printing Technology.

Dr. Awuzie observed that the Polytechnic is blessed with gifted and innovative minds whose works have the potential to attract recognition beyond the institution. She therefore charged the committee to ensure that these talents are properly curated, presented and promoted to visitors, prospective students and the general public.

According to the Rector, the gallery should go beyond being a collection of artworks to becoming a showcase of the ingenuity, skills and creative identity of Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

She stressed that the institution’s creative works deserve to be seen and appreciated by a wider audience, noting that exposing such talents could also create opportunities for recognition, collaboration and further development.

The committee is expected to work towards giving the Polytechnic’s fashion, artistic and creative productions increased visibility while positioning the gallery as an attractive representation of the institution’s creative capacity.

JUBILATION AT FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, OKO AS RECTOR PRESENTS FIVE BRAND-NEW UTILITY VEHICLES TO PRINCIPAL OFFICERS

There was jubilation at Federal Polytechnic, Oko, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as a significant milestone was recorded in the history of the institution with the presentation of five brand-new utility vehicles attached to the offices of the Polytechnic’s Principal Officers

The historic event took place at about 01:02 noon in front of Administration Block I, popularly known as A*o Rock, where the five gleaming new vehicles were parked in readiness for the presentation.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, who presided over the ceremony, assembled the Principal Officers and formally handed over the keys of the utility vehicles attached to each of their offices.

The beneficiaries of the new utility vehicles are the:

- Deputy Rector, Administration, Venerable Dr. Ferguson Ezeokafor
- Deputy Rector, Academic, Dr. Nkiruka Akabuike
- Registrar, Mr. Akeem Adeleke Ayola
- Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba
- Bursar, Mr. Jasper Anunike

Speaking during the brief ceremony, the Rector described the provision of the utility vehicles as part of her administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for the Principal Officers to effectively discharge their responsibilities and contribute to the continued transformation of the Polytechnic.

Dr. Awuzie thereafter prayed for the beneficiaries, asking God to guide, protect and grant them wisdom as they use the vehicles in the service of the Polytechnic and humanity.

The Principal Officers, in separate remarks, expressed their profound joy and appreciation to the Rector for the gesture. They commended her visionary leadership and commitment to institutional development, noting that the provision of brand-new utility vehicles attached to the offices of all the Principal Officers represented a remarkable development in the history of Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

The atmosphere at the Polytechnic was one of excitement as staff and members of the Polytechnic community witnessed the new vehicles being handed over to the officers.

The development is yet another significant milestone in the administration of Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, whose tenure has witnessed increased attention to infrastructure, staff welfare, institutional facilities, academic development and administrative efficiency.

The presentation of the five official vehicles further underscores the Rector’s determination to reposition Federal Polytechnic, Oko as a modern, efficient and enviable institution, while strengthening the capacity of its leadership to deliver effectively on the mandate of the Polytechnic.

FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OKO RECTOR PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO ANAMBRA FIRST LADY, DR. NONYE SOLUDO

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has paid a courtesy visit to the Wife of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Her Excellency, Dr. Nonye Soludo.

The visit, which was primarily a courtesy engagement, provided an opportunity for the two distinguished women to interact and exchange ideas, particularly on issues relating to leadership, human development, education, healthcare, community advancement and the wellbeing of the people.

Dr. Awuzie and Dr. Soludo, both widely regarded as Amazons in their respective spheres of influence, share remarkable qualities of visionary leadership, innovation, compassion and commitment to societal development.

Since assuming office as Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie has continued to demonstrate exceptional administrative capacity and a strong commitment to institutional transformation. Within one year and six months in office, her administration has recorded significant strides in infrastructure development, academic advancement, staff welfare, student development and the overall repositioning of Federal Polytechnic, Oko as a leading institution of technology and innovation.

On her part, Dr. Nonye Soludo has distinguished herself through her advocacy for healthy and sustainable living, particularly through the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, which promotes preventive healthcare, proper nutrition, child welfare and environmental hygiene. Her interventions have continued to contribute to public awareness and community wellbeing across Anambra State.

The courtesy visit therefore offered a platform for two accomplished women whose activities continue to impact positively on their respective communities to connect, share perspectives and strengthen the spirit of service to humanity.

Speaking during the visit, the Rector expressed her appreciation to Her Excellency for the warm reception, noting that the engagement was an opportunity to pay her respects and acknowledge the commendable efforts she has continued to make in promoting healthy living and the welfare of families and communities in Anambra State.

The visit ended on a cordial note, with both women expressing mutual appreciation and goodwill.
