FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OKO SECURES AFFILIATION WITH UNIZIK FOR BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAMMES

Federal Polytechnic Oko has achieved a major milestone as Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, officially approved her affiliation request and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the institution today.

The affiliation proposal was initially submitted in February 2026 by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, and her management team.

Following a rigorous review and due process by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, approval was granted by the University's Senate, leading to the formal signing of the MoU between the two institutions.
This is in line with the Rector's 12 Point Agenda on ACADEMIC RE-INVENTION AND PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT

The approval authorizes Federal Polytechnic Oko to run Bachelor's Degree programmes in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University in the following disciplines:

1. Business Administration
2. Public Administration
3.Accountancy
4. Banking and Finance
5. Mass Communication
6. Computer Science
7. Computer Engineering
8. Electrical Engineering
9. Chemistry
10.Biochemistry
11.Microbiology

Speaking on the landmark achievement, the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, expressed gratitude to the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University for the confidence reposed in Federal Polytechnic Oko. She noted that the development represents a significant advancement in the institution's commitment to providing accessible, quality, and industry-relevant higher education.

Dr. Awuzie further stated that the affiliation would create greater opportunities for prospective students, enhance academic excellence, and strengthen the Polytechnic's position as a leading institution for technological and professional education in Nigeria.

The successful approval and signing of the MoU underscore the visionary leadership of the Rector and her management team in pursuing strategic partnerships that promote institutional growth, innovation, and academic development.

Members of the Polytechnic community have described the development as historic, noting that it will broaden educational opportunities and provide students with access to university degree qualifications while studying within the conducive learning environment of Federal Polytechnic Oko.

The affiliation arrangement is expected to commence immediately following the completion of all necessary regulatory and administrative procedures.

Bridging Classroom Learning with Industry Practice: Federal Polytechnic Oko Exposes Science Students to NAFDAC Operations

In furtherance of the 12-point agenda of the visionary Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, which prioritizes human resource development, the Directorate of Guidance, Counselling and Career Services Centre of the institution, in collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Laboratory, Agulu, organized a practical training programme for students on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The training, which focused on the facilities, services, and regulatory activities of NAFDAC, formed part of the institution’s strategic efforts to enhance students’ career readiness by exposing them to professional environments and connecting them with potential employers in their respective fields.

The programme featured Higher National Diploma (HND II) students from the Departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. The delegation was led by the Director of Guidance, Counselling and Career Services Centre, Mr. Chioma Nwankwo.

In her welcome address, the Director of NAFDAC Laboratory, Agulu, Dr. Michael C.N.N., urged the students to pay close attention to every aspect of the training, emphasizing that it would expose them to modern laboratory facilities and practical experiences beyond the classroom setting. She assured participants of a comprehensive tour of the laboratory’s operational units.

The first session of the training was facilitated by Mohammed Abdullahi, Chief Regulatory Officer and Quality Assurance Manager, who provided detailed insights into the core functions of NAFDAC. He highlighted the agency’s regulatory responsibilities and collaborative engagements with relevant organizations to ensure effective service delivery.

Following the presentation, the students embarked on an extensive tour of eight specialized units within the laboratory, including the Microbiology Laboratory, Food Laboratory, Medical Devices Unit, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) Laboratory, Water Laboratory, Compliance Unit, Cosmetics Unit, and Pharmaceutical Laboratory.

Heads of the various units delivered practical demonstrations and professional briefings, offering students firsthand knowledge of laboratory procedures, regulatory standards, and operational activities.

Speaking at the end of the exercise, the Director of Guidance, Counselling and Career Services Centre, Mr. Chioma Nwankwo, expressed profound appreciation to the Director and staff of NAFDAC Laboratory, Agulu, for their warm reception, commitment, and professionalism in ensuring the success of the training programme.

The visit was widely described as an enriching and impactful experience, further reinforcing Federal Polytechnic Oko’s commitment to producing career-ready graduates through practical exposure and strategic industry partnerships.

Fed Poly Oko Students Begin 2026 Students Week With Rector's Assurance of Providing Enabling Environment For Learning

Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko has reiterated her commitment to students' welfare with assurances of continuous provision of an enabling environment where students can grow academically, morally, socially and entrepreneurially.

Declaring the 2026 students week open at the Convocation Arena of the institution, the students-friendly Rector commended the Students Union Government, especially the Vice President , Comrade Nweke Kosara ( Loyalty) for organising the remarkable event and propagating a culture that promotes unity, creativity, empowerment and healthy interaction among the students.

The theme of the 2026 Students week is: "Unleash Your Greatness"

The working Rector appreciated the students for the choice of the theme which she described as timely, inspiring and a reminder that greatness lies within every student.

According to the Rector, "Greatness is not mainly about talent but about discipline, innovation, resilience, hard work and courage to rise above limitations"

"As students of this institution, you have the potential to become leaders, creators of job, problem solvers and great leaders in the society" she said.

She assured the students that her administration will continue to support initiatives that promote excellence, innovation, skill acquisition and students development while encouraging all students to make the best use of the week by participating actively in all programmes .

Comrade Afokansi Benjamin of Food Science Technology department, Emeh Priscilla of Accountancy department, Justice Nwadike Philip, Wisdom Onyebuchi of Computer Engineering department and Mbakwe Anthonia of the Agricultural Engineering Technology department took turns to ask questions to the Rector.

The Dean Students Affairs, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha in his remarks eulogised the Rector for prioritising students welfare in the Polytechnic revealing that the challenges of the delay of results and students mobilisation for NYSC are now things if the past as the last year graduands are now being mobilised for NYSC.

The Vice President, Students Union Government, Comrade Nweke Kosara commended the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie for her dedication, wisdom, strength and commitment towards growth and transformation of the Federal Polytechnic Oko.

She explained that the week-long programme was dedicated to unlocking potentials, expressing individuality and empowering students to rise, shine and unleash their true greatness.

Comrade Nweke Kosara noted that the Students Union Government of the institution developed and launched students week nomination, voting and registration web application and also introduced the SUG Help Desk Portal designed to bridge the communication gap between students and their union.

Rector Flags Off a 2-Day Training Programme For Teaching Staff On Digitisation of Students' Results

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie has declared open, a two-day training workshop for Teaching staff of the institution on the digitisation of Students results in tertiary institutions.

In her address, the Rector explained that the training represents a strategic step towards strengthening the institution's capacity, improving service delivery and aligning the Federal Polytechnic Oko with the global best practices.

She succinctly described students results' digitisation as the use of computer -based systems and digital platforms for recording, processing, retrieving, transmission and management of academic results electronically instead of relying solely on the manual methods.

The Rector, identified delays in results computation and release, calculation errors, loss of records, inefficiency in transcript processing and poor data storage and retrieval system as the major challenges associated with the traditional manual system while stressing that digitisation will address those challenges by ensuring speed, accuracy, accountability, transparency and accessibility.

She therefore encouraged the participants to approach the training with seriousness, openness and willingness to learn.

The ICT Director, Dr. Amobi Chiamogu, in his address, expressed gratitude to the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie for her unflinching support, trust, approvals and relentless commitment to building a digitally driven institution.

He enjoined the participants to approach the training with seriousness and commitment, adding that the success of digitisation depends not only on infrastructure and software but also on the willingness to adapt, improve and embrace innovation.

He commended the Rector and the entire management team for successfully regaining JAMB UTME CBT Centre accreditation and efficiently hosting UTME examination.

"The institution was equally approved as a training centre for International Computer Driving Licence. Federal Polytechnic Oko also emerged as one of the six beneficiary institutions nationwide and the only Polytechnic selected for the ICT Experience Centre Project facilitated through the office of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria" he said.

Dr. Chiamogu prayer God to grant good health and special enablement to the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie as she continues to reposition the institution to its pride of place among Nigeria's leading tertiary institutions.

Federal Polytechnic, Oko Appoints New Director of Medical Services

The Governing Council and Management of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ifeanyi Fidelis Okafor (MBBS, MSc Anatomy, MRCS England, FWACS) as the institution’s new Director of Medical Services.

Dr. Okafor, an accomplished General Surgeon with over fourteen years of cumulative clinical experience across tertiary, secondary, and primary healthcare systems, emerged successful following a transparent and merit-based recruitment process. The appointment followed a duly advertised vacancy, submission of applications, shortlisting of qualified candidates, and a formal interview process conducted in line with the established guidelines.

A Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS), Dr. Okafor also holds a Master’s degree in Human Anatomy. He brings to the Polytechnic a wealth of experience in clinical governance, hospital administration, patient safety, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary healthcare coordination.

Before his appointment, Dr. Okafor served in various capacities at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, where he played significant leadership roles in surgical services, clinical supervision, and healthcare quality initiatives.

The Council and Management expresses confidence in his capacity to strengthen healthcare delivery within the Polytechnic Medical Services Department and wishes him a successful tenure.
