THE DECREPIT STATE OF NIGERIA'S ECONOMY: MY OPTIONS FOR ADEQUATE OVERHAUL
Ridwan Mikail Babatunde
Now, more than ever, countries are beginning to recognize the importance of technological advancement within their home countries. Making same a global village, ease came to the spread of immorality. Nigeria, being in this ramshackle, has suffered huge blows to the walls of her great pillars. In return, decreasing the strength of same to a level of unavailing positions.
It is no news that the lifeblood of all countries are the outcomes of the various sectors within same. As the lifeblood, a mere thirst for its positive nature without adequate implementation deploys such land to the obnoxious hands of horrendous dilapidation. Nigeria's situation is a crystal analogy. And being in the doldrums, the continued ballooning of horrific lacuna at its center never seize to exist.
Evidently, the recent case of Rumaysoh reflects the beleaguered state of Nigeria's health sector. Rumaysoh is a four-month-old infant diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), accompanied by three holes in the heart. Because of this, her flight to India was necessitated at a cumulate of twenty million naira. However, she kicked the bucket before her flight, days after the diagnosis.
Often, cases such as that stated above accentuate the decrepit nature of the Nigerian systems. The current situation of the economic system, political system, educational system, health system, security system, administrative system, social system, amongst others, are in a comatose state, crying for restructuring and repositioning. Being a part of my utmost concerns, here are some of my options for adequate overhaul.
MY RESTRUCTURING AND REPOSITIONING OPTIONS
The relationship between the well-being of a country and the adequacy of the youth within same can be likened to that between a foundation and the building to be placed directly above same. Children may be 10 percent of Nigeria’s population but they are 100 percent of the country's future.it however perturbs the mind several years and periods, adequate attention has not been deployed as adequate consideration hasn't being shifted to well-being of these children. The family, the bedrock of every nation, has also been assailed to a comatose state, since time immemorial. Knowing how counter productive and thwarting this could be, it is necessary to establish strategies adapted to the fulfillment of overhauling this situation. A concrete foundation is needed at first, as without it, the building above it remains inhabitable. Our youths must be strong enough to handle the future burden placed upon them.
Moreover, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME's) have been proved to be the lifeblood of Nigerians economy. This fact became more prominent in light of their continued resilience amid the drastic decline in oil prices during the COVID-19 pandemic era. Nigeria has been predicating hugely on oil which has contributed a lot of damage to the nature of our country. Land degradation, Climate change, et al, threatens our greenish home. It is advised that policies that vigorously cure these should be established. With SME's in focus, predication on oil should be abated and shifted, for balance, on other sectors having the potential of contributing hugely to the country's GDP. Also, supervision encapsulated with the intention of adequate restructuring and renovation should be deployed in the course of implementation.
Furthermore, the japa syndrome is a child birthed from a mother of different nature. The beleaguered state of our security system and the inadequacy of provisions as considerations for professionals, amongst other are the cause of this. Corruption at its peak! Threatening and putting honest professionals at risks in the course of their professions. Farmers are afraid of going to their farms. Assets and manufacturers of man basic needs are being tackled day by day. It is my option that a strong security system is established.
In addition, the concept of medical tourism has farther wrecked the fabric of this country. According to a report, about one billion dollars is spent annually on medical tourism. Depriving medical operatives of their rights and leading to the existence of unbearable strikes. Medical tourism should be banned. More investment should be made on the health sector. This can also serve as a source of foreign exchange earning and a stop to the massive exodus of our highly skilled medical operatives.
Moreover, the educational sector should not be left out. The access to, quality of, and relevance of the educational sector of this country should be worked upon. Workshops, internships, scholarship opportunities, amongst others should be constantly made available to students by appropriate authorities.
Conclusively, to have the Nigeria we have always dreamed of, there is a need to strategically tackle the horrendous hands besetting the viability of each sectors in Nigeria. As such, the implementation of these options is imperative. They are some steps up the ladder of rehabilitating the decrepit state of Nigeria's economy.
