The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday during Nigeriaβs Independence Day celebrations. Sharing the video on X.com on Thursday, a user identified as #ChuksEricE wrote, "Man captured the moment Nigerian police officers Γ₯ssΓ₯ultΓ©d a driver, seized his phone, and later drove off with his car yesterday during the Independence Day celebrations in Surulere, Lagos State." The viral footage showed some officers alighting from a burgundy car. They were seen dragging the driver out of his vehicle, forcibly collecting his phone from his pocket, and pushing him into their own car. Moments later, one of the policemen entered the victimβs car and drove it away. Reacting on Thursday, the commandβs spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, tagged the Lagos State Police Complaint Response Unit in to the video on X. In response, the Lagos CRU wrote, βThis is noted for action ma.β The latest development comes barely two months after the command dissolved one of its tactical squads following a similar incident. In August, PUNCH Online reported how a video surfaced showing officers assaulting a motorist during a stop-and-search operation. The altercation reportedly began after the officers attempted to remove the driverβs glasses, suspected of containing a hidden camera. Credit: X| ChuksEricE
