NITT MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY HOLDS 2025 AGM, ELECTS NEW EXCOS

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Multi-purpose Cooperative Society today, Wednesday March 25, 2026, held its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), as well as elected new executives.

In his valedictory speech, the outgoing Chairman, Dr. Maina W. Tarfa, thanked God for His grace, and members for the opportunity to serve.

He stated that under his leadership characterised by teamwork and resilience, membership of the Cooperative Society grew to 652 in 2025, and financial contributions rose to above two hundred and eighty million Naira. Dividend declared also increased year-on-year.

Additionally, Dr. Tarfa noted that the Cooperative Society procured and paid for a total of forty-six and a half plots of land for members.

During the AGM, the Dr. Ibrahim Baba Mundi-led Electoral Committee oversaw a keenly contested election of new executives as listed hereunder:

Hajia Hauwa Abdullahi (Chairperson), Engr. Suleiman Dauda (Vice Chairman), Mr. Aminu Aliyu Y (Secretary), Mrs Omotayo Ayeni (Financial Secretary), Mr. Haruna Haruna (Treasurer), Mr. Ibrahim Ladan (Welfare Secretary) and Mr. Usman Ibrahim (Auditor).

In her inaugural address, the new Chairperson, Hajia Hauwa Abdullahi, thanked the members for the confidence reposed in her, while soliciting their support.

NITT Commences Nationwide Study on Market Demand and Viability of E-Tag Implementation in Nigeria

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), in collaboration with its partners, has deployed field data supervisors across the country to conduct a study titled “Assessment of Market Demand and Economic Viability for E-Tag Implementation in Nigeria.”

According to the Director, Transport Research and Intelligence Department, Dr. Baba Ibrahim Mundi, the objective of the survey is to examine the willingness of vehicle owners in Nigeria to adopt digital e-tags (electronic tags on vehicles) and to explore the factors influencing their preferences and attitudes towards the emerging technology.

Dr. Mundi noted that the study will provide valuable insights into public acceptance of e-tag technology and its potential impact on transport management and revenue generation in the country.

It is expected that the outcome of this research will guide policy formulation, strategic planning, and investment decisions within Nigeria’s transport sector, while also underscoring NITT’s growing role in advancing transport innovation and technology-driven solutions.

NITT Secures Placement for Prestigious IMO Maritime Instructor Training in Indonesia

The Director General/Chief Executive , Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, (NITT), Zaria, Dr Bayero Salih Farah has, as part of his giant strides in capacity development, secured a placement for the Institute for a highly competitive maritime certification programme ( the IMO Model Course 6.09: Training for Instructors) scheduled to hold in Jakarta, Indonesia, from October 20 to November 1, 2025.

The training, facilitated through the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA), brings together participants from MOWCA member states, including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, and Liberia.

The two-week programme aims to strengthen the capacity of maritime instructors across the sub-region, equipping them to meet the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) requirements under international conventions.

The DG/CE observed that participation in the IMO Model Course 6.09 represents a major milestone in the Institute's efforts to enhance the quality of our maritime related trainings, certification standards and global recognition.

Thus, the course will enable the Institute to develop standardized, high-quality maritime training programmes in line with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) goals and objectives.

The training is expected to provide the regulatory framework for NITT to design and deliver STCW-compliant courses, thereby contributing to the national agenda of producing a new generation of highly skilled maritime professionals.

By participating in the IMO Model Course 6.09, NITT is further strengthening its position as a key player in advancing Nigeria’s maritime education, aligning its programmes with global standards, and supporting the nation’s ambition to become a major hub in the international maritime sector.

POLICE BOSS VISITS NITT, CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE SECURITY EFFORT

The Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, Zaria Area Command, ACP Abdulrahman Idris, has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, where he pledged closer collaboration on security matters.

Welcoming the Area Commander, the Director-General/Chief Executive of NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Institute and the Police. He commended the support of the Zaria Area Command in ensuring a safe and enabling environment for the Institute’s operations.

Speaking further, Dr. Farah congratulated ACP Idris on his new appointment, wishing him success in his duties.

In his remarks, ACP Idris disclosed that his visit was to familiarize himself with the Institute, while reaffirming the importance of collective efforts in addressing security challenges.

He noted that insecurity has become a global concern and emphasized that effective policing depends on strong collaboration with stakeholders, including institutions and individuals. In his words, “security is everybody’s business.”

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, 30th September, 2025, further reinforced the cordial ties between NITT and the Nigeria Police, thus underscoring a shared commitment to enhancing safety and security for the Institute and its host community.

NITT, PTDF PARTNER ON YOUTH TRAINING IN CNG CONVERSION

The Director-General and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, today, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Alhaji Ahmed Galadima Aminu, at the Fund's headquarters in Abuja.

The high-level meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between both agencies, with priority given to youth capacity-building in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion and utilization.

Other potential areas of partnership to support national development were also discussed.

The visit underscored the shared vision of NITT and PTDF in advancing skills development, energy efficiency, and sustainable growth for the benefit of the nation.

NITT DELEGATES ATTEND NATIONAL PRESENTATION ON AUTOGAS AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, was ably represented at the public presentation of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Autogas-Powered and Electric Vehicles, alongside the official unveiling of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Retrofitting Guidelines.

The event, held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, was organised by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).

The Director-General/Chief Executive of NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, was represented by the Director of the Transport Technology Centre (TTC), Dr. Joshua Odeleye. He was accompanied by Engr. Suleiman Dauda.

The programme brought together key stakeholders in the automotive industry from across the country.

NITT HAS BECOME MAJOR INNOVATION DRIVE IN SUBSAHARA AFRICA, AS DG-NITT, CONDUCTS TEST FLIGHT OF LOCALLY DEVELOPED DRONES

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, Under the Good Leadership of Dr. Bayero Salih Farah FCITL, Has marked a major milestone in its innovation drive with a successful test-run of drone technology developed by engineers at its Transport Technology Centre 's Drone Lab.

The live demonstration, held at the NITT headquarters in Zaria, showcased the potential of drone systems to revolutionise Nigeria's transport and logistics sector.

DG-NITT, Dr Bayero Farah, who witnessed the test flight alongside other Management staff, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the drones. He described the exercise as a significant step toward advancing indigenous technology in the transportation industry.

"This is just the beginning. We look forward to NITT championing the course of the deployment of drone technology into the national transport system," Dr. Farah stated.

He reaffirmed the Institute's commitment to fostering innovation, noting that, "What moves the world forward is technology, and we should be able to use our own engineers to innovate."

The highpoint of the event was the test flight conducted at the NITT Sports Complex, where the DG/CE, accompanied by Management staff, observed the drones in action.

The demonstration is part of NITT's broader commitment to advancing research and technological innovation in Nigeria's transport sector.

FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TRANSPORTATION, DAURA ON STUDY TOUR OF NITT

Students from the Faculty of Transportation Management, Federal University of Transportation, Daura, Katsina State, undertook a study tour of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, on Monday, July 21, 2025.

The delegation, led by the Director of the University Advancement Unit, Dr. Ahmed Zakaria, comprised several faculty members and students.

As part of the educational visit, they toured key facilities at the Institute, including the Painting Booth, Databank Laboratory, Drone Laboratory, CNG Conversion Laboratory, Driving School, and the e-Library, among others.

Welcoming the group on behalf of the DG/CE was the Registrar, Dr. Maina W. A. Tarfa, accompanied by the Director of the Transport Technology Centre (TTC), Dr. Joshua Odeleye; Director, Library and Information Services Department, Dr. Mrs. Felicia Nwanosike, and the Special Assistant to the Director-General/Chief Executive, Malam Sani Barau, among others.

The visit provided the students with practical exposure to the Institute's cutting-edge innovations in transportation research and technology.
