Democracy Day Message from the Chief Medical Director, Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Akwanga (DASH)
I, the Chief Medical Director of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Akwanga, Dr. Esala E. Abene, on behalf of the Governing Board, Management, and Staff of the hospital, extend our warmest greetings to the president Ahmed Bula Tinubu , Our Amiable governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule his Deputy Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, speaker and members of the state Assembly, the good people of Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large on this significant occasion of Democracy Day.
Democracy is not just about the right to vote, it is about the right to live. And the right to live depends fundamentally on access to quality healthcare.
As we mark this day, I reaffirm our collective resolve at DASH Akwanga to uphold the democratic values of service, equity, and justice within our walls. Whether you are a Senior Advocate of Nigeria or a farmer, a civil servant or a student every life matters here. Our commitment is to provide compassionate, affordable, and specialist-driven care without discrimination, because democracy thrives when citizens are healthy.

DASH CEmONC Team Takes Sensitization Visit to Akwanga, Wamba Communities
Following the commencement of the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) program at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Akwanga, a team from the hospital has embarked on a sensitization visit to several communities in Akwanga and Wamba Local Government Areas.
The aim of the visit is to create awareness about the CEmONC program and its benefits. The initiative is designed to prevent mothers and babies from dying from avoidable pregnancy complications by ensuring that life-saving surgery, blood transfusions, and newborn intensive care are both available and provided free of charge to those in need.
The team first visited the communities of Rinze, Moroa, Gudi and wamba. The team leader, who is also the DASH Insurance Coordinator, Mohammed Abdullahi Adudu, informed a large turnout of women that the program is an initiative aimed at preventing maternal deaths and is completely free. He stated that the program provides free emergency C-sections and maternal care for vulnerable and poor women. He urged the women to take advantage of the program and visit DASH whenever they experience pregnancy complications.
The Director of Nursing, Nurse Laraba Angbashim, and the Head of Health Information Management, Kyauta Ladi Anacha, explained in clear terms the six diagnosis areas that the CEmONC program covers. These include: prolonged/obstructed labor, hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, post-abortion complications, sepsis, and ectopic pregnancy. They appealed to the women to attend antenatal care regularly to help ensure they do not encounter problems during pregnancy.
In their separate responses, the Chun Ngah (represented by Madaki Mallam Ibrahim), the Sarkin Gudi, Alhaji Bawa Sule, and the representative of the Oriye Rindre, Usman Bichi Sambo, all appreciated the government for the initiative, stating that it will go a long way in reducing cases of maternal death in thei

DASH CMD Attends Major West African Health Expo to Boost Diagnostic Capacity
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) Akwanga, Dr. Esala E. Abene, has joined health professionals from other West African countries at the Medic West Africa Exhibition also known as the World Health Expo 2026 currently taking place in Lagos.
The exhibition brings together international manufacturers, medical technology firms, and healthcare institutions from across Africa. Its primary aim is to align a trinity system limited's commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and fostering strategic partnerships within Nigeria and the broader African medical sector.
Declaring the event open, President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Isiaq Adekule Salako, emphasized that the Lagos exhibition organized under the stewardship of Informa Markets has evolved from a visionary showcase into a vital catalyst for West Africa’s healthcare transformation. He noted that the event is directly shaping national policy and helping bridge the continent’s critical diagnostic gaps.
Dr. Salako revealed that between 85% and 99% of medical equipment and in-vitro diagnostics in West Africa are currently imported. In response, he outlined aggressive federal interventions designed to dismantle supply chain vulnerabilities and skyrocket local manufacturing capabilities.
He also highlighted an extensive health infrastructure upgrade program in partnership with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority. This phased initiative is actively delivering oncology and nuclear medicine centers across six tertiary hospitals, alongside establishing 22 modern medical diagnostic centers, seven cardiac catheterization laboratories, and expanded radiology and clinical pathology capabilities distributed across the six geopolitical zones.
