A Nation Numbed
In Nigeria's streets, a silence screams
A graveyard calm, where grief's a fleeting dream
Tragedies unfold, like clockwork's steady beat
We mourn, we rage, then swiftly retreat
The faceless foe, with bloody hands, invades
Villages razed, like harmattan's withered leaves, they're laid
Innocent cries, a distant whisper, lost in the wind
As we, like somnambulists, stumble, blinded by indifference' pallid skin
The government's voice is a whisper, a hollow ring
"Condolences" echo, as justice slings its empty string
No flags at half-mast, no tears are shed
For lives lost, like grains of sand, in a forgotten thread
We're drowned in distractions, a sea of trivial cares
Our hearts, like stone, hardened by repeated despair
The killers strike, like lightning's deadly flash
Leaving sorrow's wreckage, in a perpetual crash
This is our land, our people, our shame
A grief that's deep, a wound that won't inflame
We must wake, we must rise, and claim our right
To live, to love, to be free from this endless night.
