*_IF YOU TRULY UNDERSTAND NIGERIA, YOU WILL CALM DOWN AND WATCH HOW YOU MOVE._*
Let me be brutally realistic for those who want to understand the kind of country we live in.
One of the major reasons Mazi Nnamdi Kanu ended up where he is today is because he misread the nature of Nigeria.
Many young people cheering him on also misunderstood the kind of structure they were confronting.
NIGERIA IS LIKE A WHALE
A whale is a massive creature living under water.
Slow… calm... gentle-looking.
But anytime it opens its mouth, it can swallow anything — no matter the size — without shaking.
That is Nigeria.
You can provoke it.
You can insult it.
You can challenge it.
You can shout.
You can trend online.
But once that “mouth” opens, whatever enters is swallowed.
No noise.
No drama.
No consequence.
That is the Nigerian state.
KANU UNDERESTIMATED THE COUNTRY
He started with intellectual debates that were gaining attention:
restructuring
marginalization
federal imbalance
historical injustices
These conversations were becoming mainstream.
But suddenly, his approach changed.
Statements became harsher.
Broadcasts became more extreme.
He made declarations that were too open, too recorded, too documented.
He gave instructions that were easy to trace and easy to quote.
That was an error.
Even the worst extremist groups in the world do not make direct, traceable statements online — they understand the consequences.
THE “NO ONE CAN TOUCH HIM” NARRATIVE BACKFIRED
Many IPOB supporters overestimated what a British passport or foreign residency could do.
They forgot:
The same Buhari who arrested Kanu had once attempted to kidnap Umaru Dikko in London in the 1980s.
Buhari had a history of targeting people abroad and bringing them back.
When Kanu was taken, the UK did not fight Nigeria.
Reality became clear.
Again, many said:
“If Kanu is touched, the heavens will fall.”
But today, after a life sentence was pronounced,
Nigeria is calm.
No explosion.
No shaking.
