Capacity Building for School Administrators on Legal and Governance Structures

Recently, the Wuse–Maitama Ward of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) hosted a training session focused on key legal structures and policies for school administrators.

The session emphasized that every school leader must understand the legal and regulatory frameworks guiding school management to avoid preventable conflicts with key stakeholders and oversight bodies.

The training was facilitated by former DQA Director, Mr. Salihu Yahaya, who delivered practical insights on compliance, documentation, and institutional accountability.

Dr. Stella Ozigi, (Coordinator of NAPPS Wuse-Maitama ward, Executive Director, RABERTO SCHOOL Schools, and founder/Chief Executive, Portsbridge Educational Services Ltd), expressed appreciation for the depth and relevance of the seminar. She encouraged administrators and proprietors to stay well-informed about legal rights and operational structures, noting that modern governance environments are increasingly rife with misconceptions and assumptions that schools must be prepared to address.

Key focus areas covered included:

💡Proper staff documentation: employment letters, references, resignation, and dismissal procedures
💡 Clear and enforceable staff codes of conduct
💡 Child rights and discipline guidelines: when and how discipline is appropriate
💡 The importance of regularly updated and detailed school handbooks
💡 Defining parents’ roles and boundaries
💡 Understanding the responsibilities and powers of regulatory bodies such as West African Examinations Council, Federal Inland Revenue Services Nigeria, and Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, among other regulatory and taxation agencies

Strong governance knowledge is no longer optional; it is essential for sustainable and credible school leadership.

Our Senior Citizens Hangout over the weekend was a wonderful success, bringing together over 15 amazing senior citizens for a day filled with health talks, engaging discussions, games, and lots of shared laughter.

A special highlight was the inspiring health and wellness session by Kunaba Dogara, reminding us all of the importance of healthy living and staying connected beyond retirement.

We are grateful to everyone who attended and supported this meaningful initiative, proudly hosted by Portsbridge Educational Services Limited, under the leadership of Dr. Stella Ozigi.
