*Federal College of Agriculture Receives Static Methane Flux Chamber to Advance Climate-Smart Agricultural Research*

The Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), has strengthened its agricultural research capacity with the donation of a static methane flux chamber, a specialised instrument for measuring methane emissions from rice fields and supporting climate-smart agriculture.

The equipment was received on behalf of the Provost, Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu, by the Deputy Provost (Academics), Dr. Victoria E. Okpeze. Present also were the Dean of the School of Agriculture, Dr. Modupe Sodamola; the Director of Entrepreneurship, Dr. Akindele Oluwaleke; and Mr. Josiah Yilson.

Presenting the equipment on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the Director of the Centre for Energy Research and Development (CERD), Professor Abiodun Suleiman Momodu, said the donation was aimed at strengthening research collaboration, knowledge sharing and capacity building between both institutions.

Professor Momodu explained that the donation forms part of a methane emission research project funded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) through the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), in partnership with Queen Mary University of London. The project also involves Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, and Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, with participating institutions collecting methane emission data from different parts of Nigeria.

He noted that the research focuses on measuring methane emissions from waterlogged rice fields, as rice cultivation is a major source of methane, a greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to global warming.

The 2026 edition of the Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan (FCAIB) Provost's Cup ended on Thursday, 23 July 2026, with the School of Agricultural and Applied Plant Health Technology (ASAPHT) successfully defending its title after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over the School of Engineering and Technical Services (SETSA) at the Bora Field, Ibadan.

The football final was officially declared open by the Provost, Prof. Jonathan J. Atungwu, represented by the Director of Audit, Mr. Olufemi O. Karunwi, who charged students to uphold the values of discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and peaceful coexistence.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Provost (Academic), Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria O. Okpeze; the Director of Sports, Mrs. Temitayo Terwanger; the Head of Department of Animal Production, Mr. Olufemi Olaoye; Pastor Olufemi Odejide; members of the Sports Committee, Staff and Students.

ASAPHT secured victory through a 21st-minute goal by Mr. Mustapha Kolawole, whose outstanding performance earned him the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer and Man of the Match awards.

In addition to football, the sports festival featured table tennis, relay races and indoor games including chess, ayo, ludo, whot and checkers, all of which recorded impressive participation.

Speaking on the event, a member of the Sports Committee described the Provost's Cup as a platform for promoting friendship, unity, healthy competition and lasting memories among students.

The successful conclusion of the 2026 Provost's Cup once again underscored FCAIB's commitment to fostering sports development, unity and the holistic growth of its students.

*FCAIB Multimedia Students Explore the World of Broadcasting During LeadCity 89.1FM Excursion*

Students of Multimedia Technology from the School of Basic Studies and Multimedia Technology at the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, embarked on an educational excursion to LeadCity 89.1FM at Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, 15 July, 2026. The visit provided them with valuable practical exposure to the operations of the media industry and complemented their classroom learning.

The students, led by the Dean of the School, Dr. Mrs. B. A. Alabi, with the approval of the College Provost, Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu, were warmly received by Mr. Adekunle Oba, a Presenter at the radio station, who guided them through the day's activities and exposed them to the different areas of the media industry.

During the interactive session, Mr. Oba explained how radio, television and magazine platforms operate and highlighted the unique roles each plays in informing, educating and entertaining the public. He also spoke on the professional standards that guide media practice and stressed the importance of accuracy, responsibility and ethical conduct in broadcasting.

The students were also taken through the practical aspects of media operations, where they gained firsthand experience of how broadcasting is carried out. They were advised to always uphold the rules and regulations of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and maintain professionalism while carrying out their duties in any media organisation.

The excursion was both informative and inspiring, as it exposed the students to the realities of the broadcasting profession beyond the classroom. It also strengthened their practical knowledge and deepened their appreciation of the media industry.

*NANS Honours FCAIB Provost with Green Revolution Award*

The Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu, has been honoured with the Green Revolution Award by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in recognition of his *exceptional leadership, visionary drive and transformative contributions to agricultural education and student development.*

The award was presented during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Oyo State Axis, Comrade Uthman Olawale Abdulazeez, alongside members of his executive council.

The delegation also included four successive Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents of the Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan, and the Student Union President of the College of Hygiene, Comrade Babalola Wisdom Oluwabukunmi.

Welcoming the delegation, Professor Atungwu described the award as a recognition of the collective efforts of the College Management, staff and students rather than an individual achievement.

Reflecting on his academic journey, he recalled studying General Agriculture at the Federal College of Agriculture before proceeding to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) through Direct Entry. He noted that the practical knowledge acquired at the College gave him a distinct advantage at the university, as many techniques he had already mastered were only introduced to other students in their final year.

According to him, the College's strong practical training remains one of its greatest strengths and continues to produce graduates who excel in their chosen careers.
Professor Atungwu said his passion for the institution inspired his return to contribute to its growth, adding that every reform introduced by his administration is aimed at improving students' learning experiences.

*FCAIB Flags Off 2026 Provost Cup with Exciting Opening Fixtures*

The Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), officially flagged off the 2026 edition of the Provost Cup, reaffirming its commitment to promoting sportsmanship, unity and physical well-being among staff and students.

Declaring the competition open on behalf of the Provost, Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu, the Director of Audit, Mr. Olakunle Karunwi, welcomed participants and spectators to the annual sporting event. He conveyed the Provost's goodwill to all competing teams and encouraged them to uphold the values of discipline, teamwork and fair play throughout the tournament. He then wished all participants injury free and successful competition.

In her welcome address, the Director of Sports, Mrs. Eyitayo Tewanger, expressed delight at the commencement of another edition of the Provost Cup. She welcomed members of staff, students and invited guests, describing the competition as an important platform for fostering unity, friendship and healthy rivalry within the College community. She urged all participating teams to compete with integrity while displaying the true spirit of sportsmanship.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Head of the Department of Animal Production, Mr. Stephen Olufemi Olaoye, members of the Sports Committee and students, all of whom gathered to witness the commencement of the tournament.

The opening day featured two exciting football fixtures. In the first match, SETSA secured a convincing 2–0 victory over ASAPTS to record the tournament's first win. The second match ended in a 1–0 victory for SAMVOS over NATSA, earning the team maximum points.

The successful commencement of the 2026 Provost Cup sets the stage for an exciting tournament, with more thrilling fixtures expected as staff and students continue to contest in the spirit of unity, excellence and healthy competition.

*FCAIB Hosts GIZ Evaluation Team to Assess Impact of Agricultural Finance Project*

The Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), on Tuesday hosted an evaluation team from the GIZ Global Project on the Promotion of Agricultural Finance for Agri-Based Enterprises in Rural Areas (GP AgFin) Nigeria as part of the project's end-of-term evaluation to assess its impact, achievements and sustainability at the College.

Welcoming the delegation, the Provost of the College, Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu, expressed appreciation to GIZ for its partnership with the College over the years.
He described the collaboration as a transformative initiative that has strengthened teaching, research, extension services and entrepreneurship education while equipping students with practical knowledge in agricultural finance and agribusiness management.

Professor Atungwu stated that the project has made a significant impact on the College and has contributed to producing graduates who are better prepared to manage agricultural enterprises with sound financial knowledge. He assured the delegation that the College remains committed to sustaining the achievements of the project through the continued implementation of the Farmer Financial Cycle curriculum and by expanding its reach to more students.

The GIZ delegation was led by the South-West Regional Coordinator, who represented the GP AgFin Nigeria Project Coordinator, Mrs. Ruskiyat Badmus. Other members of the team included the international evaluation consultant, Mr. Paul Brosby and the national evaluation consultant, Mr. David Adeiza.

The evaluation team explained that the visit was aimed at assessing the implementation outcomes and overall impact of the project, documenting lessons learned and identifying strategies for sustaining its achievements beyond the project's completion.
