SHEIKH GUMI REFUSES TO BE SILENCED
Whoever strips you of your right, and your freedom, to speak, especially about your nation and your faith, inflicts a harm far greater than physical aggression. Silence is the most effective weapon against truth.
Edward Said reminds us that if the Palestinian struggle has achieved only one thing over the decades, global awareness of the reality of Palestinian suffering, then it has already accomplished much. Today, the world increasingly recognizes Israel for what it is: an oppressor exposed by its own actions.
The United States of America is not an innocent bystander in global chaos. It is, more often than not, the architect. Its foreign policy has long followed a familiar and deeply destructive pattern: create monsters, unleash them to serve imperial interests, then erase its own fingerprints and place the blame squarely on the very forces it once empowered.
Afghanistan tells this story in brutal clarity. During the Cold War, the U.S. armed and financed militant groups to fight a proxy war against the Soviet Union. These fighters were praised as heroes, romanticized as freedom warriors, and celebrated for bleeding the Soviets dry. When their mission was accomplished and the Soviet Union collapsed, those same men were suddenly recast as extremists and terrorists. Afghanistan was discarded, left fractured and aflame, only to be later invaded and pulverized under the pretext of combating the chaos America itself had engineered.
Iraq followed the same script, with different actors and deadlier consequences. Saddam Hussein was not always a villain in Western eyes. He was tolerated, protected, and indirectly supported while he waged war against Khomeini’s Iran, because at the time, he served a strategic purpose. When he outlived that usefulness and defied American control, he became the embodiment of evil. He was eliminated, the state was dismantled, and an entire nation was thrown into prolonged bloodshed, sectarian violence, and institutional collapse.
This is not a mistake. It is not an accident. It is a method.
Human rights are invoked only when convenient. Democracy is preached only when it aligns with interest. And when the consequences of intervention become too ugly to defend, responsibility is outsourced to the victims, labelled savages, dictators, or terrorists, while the true authors of destruction wash their hands and move on to the next target.
Entire regions are reduced to rubble, millions are displaced, and generations grow up knowing nothing but war, all so global power structures can remain intact. Then, with stunning audacity, the same forces that ignited the fire present themselves as moral arbiters of the world.
History, however, is not forgetful. It records patterns. And this pattern is unmistakable.
The world must stop pretending this is about security or values. It is about control. And until that truth is spoken plainly, the cycle will repeat, new monsters will be made, new nations will burn, and the blame will fall everywhere except where it belongs.
This, in summary, is what Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi is trying so hard to educate Nigerians, but unfortunately, it looks like rocket science to many.
Do not let them silence you.
Because when voices are muted, injustice thrives.
