Title: Finding Purpose in the Waiting: My 3-Year Journey Before Admission

Life has a way of teaching us lessons in the most unexpected ways. For three years, I faced the same battle—writing JAMB, scoring high, yet still not gaining admission into the university. It was frustrating, confusing, and, at times, heartbreaking.

Each year, I watched my mates move forward. I congratulated them as they received their admission letters, celebrated their matriculation ceremonies, and embarked on their academic journeys. I was genuinely happy for them, but deep down, I longed for my own moment.

One of my mates, who gained admission during that time, recently messaged me. He had just graduated and had become a pastor. As I read his words, a mix of emotions washed over me. I was proud of him—his success was inspiring. But at the same time, I felt like I was still searching, still trying to find my place and purpose in life.

It’s in moments like these that we start questioning—Why me? Why is my journey different? Am I behind in life? But looking back, I realize that the waiting period wasn’t wasted. It was a season of growth, of self-discovery, of building resilience.

To every teenager out there feeling lost or left behind, let me tell you this: Purpose is not a race. It’s a journey. Some people find theirs early, while others take time. And that’s okay. You are not defined by how fast you get into university, land a dream job, or achieve milestones. What truly matters is discovering who you are and what path is meant for you.

So if you’re in a waiting season, embrace it. Learn from it. Use it to develop yourself. Because when your time comes, you’ll realize that everything happened exactly the way it was meant to.
