Drawing from the rich Nigerian spirit of community and curiosity that lights up our neighborhoods, 𝗪𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗬𝗮𝗿𝗱 transforms childhood into a magical blend of learning, wellness, and pure joy. Imagine a space where 50 young minds dive into purposeful play inspired by our featured book “𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁-𝗚𝗲𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲,” exploring self-discovery and impact through fun activities and reflections. 
𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 conduct free basic checks, share tips on nutrition and hygiene, and even provide vitamins (with parental consent) to nurture strong bodies and minds. Top it off with nostalgic games, storytelling, art, and music that bring families together, reviving the warmth of togetherness while championing 𝗦𝗗𝗚𝘀 𝟯 (Good Health and Well-being) and 𝟰 (Quality Education).

Nigeria has established key regulatory bodies to safeguard online spaces, particularly for children navigating the digital risks amplified by post-COVID learning shifts. The removes harmful or illegal content, while the monitors broadcast-style digital media, enforcing standards against exploitative material. The oversees online advertisements to prevent predatory targeting, and the protects children’s personal data under the 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁. Meanwhile, cybercrime agencies like the and tackle harassment, stalking, grooming, and exploitation through investigations and prosecutions.

Despite these frameworks, enforcement remains inconsistent due to resource constraints, fragmented coordination, and platforms’ global operations outpacing local oversight, allowing disturbing content to trend unchecked. 
Unlike Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, which mandates age verification and fines platforms heavily for child safety failures, Nigeria lacks binding accountability mechanisms for social media giants, though NITDA’s 2022 Code of Practice urges swift content removal.

True protection demands stronger laws, inter-agency collaboration, and community vigilance, parents reporting suspicious activity and platforms prioritizing ethical algorithms to shield every child beyond mere regulation.

We have reached the point where we now ask:

Because truly, it is only the living who go to school, sit for exams, dream of degrees, and hope for a future.

On Monday, tragedy struck again.
Attackers invaded the 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗮, 𝗞𝗲𝗯𝗯𝗶 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲, around 04:00 local time (0300 GMT).
A teacher, who stood in the gap to protect his students was killed.

This is the first major school abduction since 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, when more than 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗹𝘀 were taken from Kuriga, Kaduna State.

For over a decade, schools in Northern Nigeria have been repeated targets of armed groups.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀.
Girls who carry nothing but books, hope, and the belief that education can break poverty and reshape their lives.

These are not mere headlines.
They are:
Wounds that whole families and entire communities carry forever.
Wounds that change the lives of girls, emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually.
Wounds that change our nation.

𝗜𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟲 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
Yet here we are, confronted with the very violence we are trying to end.
Where do we begin when children are not safe in the one place meant to shape their future?
Where do we begin when girls are killed for daring to learn?

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆.
𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴.
𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Their crime?
𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

💔 𝟳 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿... 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗼 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮

Seven years on, and 𝗻𝗼 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟭𝟮-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗢𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮 𝗢𝗴𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗲, the little girl whose only “crime” was dreaming of a better future through education.

Sent to live with her aunt for what was supposed to be a brighter tomorrow, 𝗢𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗢𝗴𝗯𝘂𝗷𝗮 (𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰), 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗴𝗯𝘂𝗷𝗮. The abuse left her gravely ill with Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), a condition she suffered until her tragic death in 2018.

Her story broke hearts across Nigeria and yet, years later, 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲. 💔

But this is 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗢𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮.
This is about every child, boy or girl, whose innocence is stolen in silence.
Every guardian who failed to protect.
Every system that looked away.

𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 is not gender-specific. It preys on the weak, the voiceless, the trusting.
If you are privileged to be a child’s guardian, teacher, relative, or caregiver, protect that child fiercely. Don’t wait until it becomes a tragedy remembered in hashtags and heartbreaks.

We owe Ochanya one last act of love - 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲.
We owe every child 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆.
We owe every survivor 𝗮 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲.

Let’s not let her story fade into silence.
