Before You Help Any Learner, Read This👀

Not every difficult moment in the classroom needs to be rescued.
Sometimes, a learner needs to sit with a question.
Think about it.
Try something.
Get it wrong.
Try again.
Compare ideas.
Question what they know.

Analyse the information in front of them.
And work their way towards the answer.

One of the things I emphasised during a recent onsite teacher training was this:
Stop giving learners the answers too quickly.
When we constantly rescue children from difficult questions, we may help them get the answer, but we may not be helping them learn how to think.

The goal is not simply to produce children who can give correct answers.

We want learners who can think, question, analyse, reason and make informed decisions.

That requires a different approach to teaching.
Sometimes, the best thing a teacher can do is pause.

Ask another question.
Give a little hint.
And allow the learner to do the thinking.

Good teaching does not remove every challenge.
Good teaching knows which challenges learners need to work through.

WHAT YOUR WORDS LEAVE BEHIND.

Teaching is not only about what you teach.
It is also about how you speak to the learner while you teach.

A learner gets an answer wrong.
They are struggling with a task.
They are taking longer than expected.
They lose focus.

These moments will happen every day in a classroom.
But how a professional teacher responds to these moments matters.

For example, instead of saying:
Why are you so slow?
Say:
Take your time. Let's go through it again at your pace.

Instead of saying:
You should know it by now.
Say:
Let's review it again to strengthen your understanding.

Instead of saying:
That's a wrong answer.
Say:
Let's look at that answer again. Tell me how you arrived at it.

Instead of saying:
You're not serious.
Say:
I believe you can do better. Let's try again.

The point is not to make correction softer.
It is to make correction better.

A teacher can maintain standards, correct behaviour and demand excellence without making a learner feel small.

That is part of professional teaching.

Correct the mistake.
Guide the learner.
Protect their dignity.

Because the words you use in the classroom are part of what you are teaching.

I handed the microphone over last Friday...

I asked one of my past trainees (JANE), to take us on a 30-minute session. 👀

Yes, one of the teachers I trained led a short session for other members of our community.

Her topic was:
3 Hacks to Creating an Engaging Social Media Post.
And I thought these are too useful to keep within our group.

Here are the three things she shared:
1. Start with a Hook
Don't just begin with your topic. Open with something that creates curiosity and makes people want to read more.

2. Make it Relatable. Connect with your audience.
Use examples, stories, or situations your readers can see themselves in.

Make them say:
This is exactly what I am going through.

3. Show People How + Have a Message
Don't just talk about something. Show people how to do it.
And make sure your content has a clear purpose.

Your content should:
1.Educate.
2.Entertain.
3.Inspire.

So, before you hit POST, ask yourself:

Does this content educate, entertain, or inspire?

If it does none of these...

Why are you posting it? 👀

This is one of the things I love about our past trainees' community.

You don't always have to be the one teaching.
Sometimes, you learn from the people you once taught.
And that, for me, is growth. ❤️

There is a price nobody tells you about...

Remember this: ✍🏼📍👌🏼👇🏼

Consistency brings results.

But consistency will inconvenience you because it demands your attention.

It requires you to show up even when you don't feel like it.

Whether you are a teacher, business owner, or a CEO, your results are connected to what you consistently do.

A teacher who teaches only when it is convenient cannot get the same results as one who consistently improves their craft.

A business owner who attends to the business only when they are free cannot expect the business to grow steadily.

A CEO who only pays attention to important things occasionally will eventually feel the effect.

A venture you only work on when you are very free...
Or one you do occasionally...
Will struggle to produce results or bear fruit. 🍓

So:
Keep showing up.
Keep doing the work.
Keep nurturing it.
..because consistency is what turns effort into results.
