One of our handwriting learners taught us something interesting very early into his programme: If he was not competing… he was not interested 😄.
Instead of fighting his natural personality, the sessions adapted around what genuinely motivated him.
Sometimes children are not unwilling to learn.
Sometimes the learning simply has not connected with them yet.

I visited two private schools in Abuja yesterday for my twin boys.
At both schools the conversation started with fees. Nobody asked who my children are or how they learn.
One school couldn't explain differentiated learning. The other gave me three reasons to choose them — my mind tells me so, my church member referred me, and other parents are coming. 😄 Those were the reasons I was given.
As a mother that stung. As an educator it confirmed everything.
A school that doesn't know your child before teaching them is already working at a disadvantage.
Nigerian parents — what did you look for when choosing a school, and did they deliver? Drop your experience below. 👇🏾

A learner in our handwriting programme was recently asked: “What handwriting skill have you used in school?”
His response was immediate: “Gripping my pencil properly and forming my a and d correctly.”
Then he ran to bring his spelling book but during reflection with his tutor, he noticed something important on his own: The letter placement and formation could be better.
So he made a decision to retake the spelling test.
Nobody punished him. Nobody forced him.
He simply wanted to improve the quality of his work.
That moment captures something many people overlook about learning: Real growth begins when learners develop ownership.
At ClearPath Academy, we are interested in more than right answers. We groom learners who can think, reflect, notice, improve, and take pride in their growth.

What if the handwriting is not the real problem?
Many children who struggle with handwriting are not lazy or careless. Sometimes, they are dealing with underlying challenges involving attention, confidence, motor coordination, or processing skills.
A child may know the answer but struggle to transfer thoughts clearly onto paper.
At ClearPath Academy, we focus on understanding the child behind the difficulty because every child deserves support that meets their individual learning needs.

One thing you can do tonight to support your child’s learning.
Ask them to teach you something they learned today. Not to test them, not to check their homework, just sit with them and say: teach me something you learned today as if I knew nothing about it then listen.
A child who can explain something clearly understands it.
A child who stumbles, goes quiet, or says ‘I don’t know how to explain it’ is showing you exactly where the gap is — not in their intelligence, but in their understanding.
This one simple exercise tells you more about where your child is in their learning than any test result and it does something else too.
It tells your child that what they learned today was worth sharing. That their thinking matters. That you are interested, not just in their grades, but in their mind.
Try it tonight. See what they teach you.

A father, an report discussion once asked a question I have never forgotten.
“So what will you people do with my child given that he is performing excellently?”
It was a fair question.
His son was a high performer. Top grades. Teachers loved him. No obvious problems.
But the assessment had shown us something the grades were not showing.
Two weeks into his personalised programme, here is what we observed:
He was overconfident, rushing through work because he had always found it easy.
He was careless about steps when solving Mathematics, getting the right answer but not really understanding the process deeply enough to replicate it when the problem got harder.
He zoned out easily, not because he was uninterested, but because the work was not challenging enough to hold a mind like his.
He was not struggling.
He was unchallenged.
And an unchallenged mind does not grow, it coasts.
We rebuilt his curriculum to challenge him beyond his current level. Not to punish his excellence, but to honour it. To give his mind something worthy of it.
Because here is what grades do not always tell you:
A child who gets the right answer without really understanding the steps is one harder problem away from confusion.
A child who is never stretched is never truly growing.
A child who coasts through school on natural ability alone is not being prepared, they are being delayed.
ClearPath is not just for the child who is falling behind.
It is for every child whose potential is greater than what their current environment is asking of them.

This happened on Saturday morning before an assessment session.
I have worked with this family since August last year. When I opened the gate today, this little one ran with everything she had to reach me — the force knocked us both off our feet. We ended up on the floor laughing.
This is what happens when a child feels truly safe with someone.
That feeling — that trust — is not separate from the learning. It is the foundation of it. A child who feels safe will try. A child who tries will grow.
This is ClearPath🙂.

This is a bowl of mixed items.
No instructions. No demonstration. No right answer.
I gave this exact pile to my twins, Zane and Zuriel, both four years old and watched what each of them did.
Zane sorted everything by type. Caps with caps. Sticks with sticks. Pom poms with pom poms. He saw categories.
Zuriel sorted everything by colour. Yellow here. Orange there. Green separate. Red separate. He saw shades, and patterns, and then he saw words.
Same genes. Same home. Same bowl.
Completely different minds.
This is why ClearPath does not teach children the same way because even two children who share a womb, a bedroom, and a breakfast table process the world differently. A method that works for Zane will not automatically work for Zuriel and a teacher who does not know the difference will never get the best from either of them.
Before we teach your child, we understand them.
No child is dull. Every child is simply waiting to be understood.
