2027: Female ex-lawmaker, Maria Nwachi Maria Ude Nwachi wins Ebonyi South PDP Senatorial ticket

- Vows to serve herself last as a Nigerian Senator

Ahead of the January 16th, 2027, Presidential and National Assembly elections, a popular influencer and former Minority Leader in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Maria Ude Nwachi has emerged as the standard bearer for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District under the People's Democratic Party, PDP, vowing to serve the people first and herself last.

Speaking shortly after a direct primaries and consequent affirmation by 297 Party delegates drawn from the five Local Governments that make up the Senatorial zone, which held at the district's headquarters in Afikpo, the ex-legislator expressed her excitement to fly the ticket of the PDP, reiterating her firm belief that the party would cruise home to victory at the polls.

"I thank you all for the enormous love and support. This is just the start. All that I will tell you is that God has remembered us through my being in this race. As you see me here right now, I don't have much need of my own. All I need is to eliminate, or at least drastically reduce, the burdens on my people and beyond. My people of Afikpo can confirm that all my years in and out of politics have been about lifting people out of poverty and suffering.

I never planned to contest or even return to politics, but God has now ordained it. That is why I am in the race. He perfected it through Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii (ICO), whom God used to avail me this noble platform, and I am eternally grateful to him. Ifeanyi C Odii, a Business Tycoon, popularly known as Anyichuks, is running for Governor of Ebonyi State in 2027 under PDP. Ebonyians should support him because he has all it takes to make Ebonyi State the fastest-rising state in the federation. The well-traveled, avant-garde, pragmatic, compassionate, and ultra-successful business mogul will put an end to multidimensional poverty bedeviling Ebonyi State and Ebonyians. Odii built over 300 modern homes and gifted them to the have-nots in Ebonyi; this is the least of the shocking acts of care and generosity he sprinkles everywhere. He has greatly impacted many lives in Ebonyi and beyond. With our collective hard work, Odii will succeed in 2027.

What I will do in the Nigerian Senate with human empowerment and development, Nigeria has never seen before! I WILL BUILD MEN. It is not a boast but a fact and a reality. I said I would serve myself last during my time in the House of Assembly, but I ended up not serving myself at all, as I used my personal money to fund all the multi-million-naira projects I carried out during my tenure. I have returned to politics to continue serving the people. I will go hungry for my people to eat, and I won't sleep comfortably with light while they remain in darkness. The entire Ebonyi South is going to be the envy of all districts in Nigeria and beyond, they will feel me for real", she maintained.

The former legislator equally extolled the courage, support, endorsement, and encouragement accorded her by a PDP Chieftain, Chief Mrs. Rosemary Nwakaego Emmanuel, popularly known as Ego Bekee. According to her, Ego Bekee, my own Godfather, a great mobilizer, is a huge asset to the PDP, Womanhood, and the Nation. Following Nwachi's confirmation as the PDP Candidate for Ebonyi South Senate contest, Ego Bekee wrote, "Congratulations, my ageless Maria Ude Nwachi, woman of strength and excellence, on the success of today’s primary election. You are truly a star destined to shine", she applauded, affirming her strong believe in the former lawmaker's capacity to triumph.

The House of Representatives candidate for the Party, Hon. Eni Uduma Chima, in his remarks, thanked the Party for choosing Maria, whom he described as a grassroots mobilizer and a square peg in a square hole, and urged the people to give the PDP overwhelming support.

Also speaking, a Chieftain of the PDP in Afikpo, Barr. Mudi. Erhenede, while addressing the crowd, said the PDP is poised for total victory not only in Ebonyi South but the entire State come the 2027 general elections. He, however, cautioned against the politics of sentiment but urged all Party faithful to remain committed and loyal to all the Party's candidates.

His words: "Today, many things have happened in Ebonyi State, and it is those things that made PDP bounce back to life. And for our candidate, Maria Ude Nwachi, PDP gave her ticket because she has a good heart to work and serve the people. She has done it before, and we all know she will do much better when she has better opportunities in politics.
,
Earlier while declaring the results of the direct primary earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Francis Kalu, said Maria emerged as the Party's candidate with 297 votes and was consequently affirmed as the Party's consensus candidate in the absence of any other aspirant.
