Late to the party but present nonetheless. Today we kicked off one week of training for the SS1, SS2 and SS3 students of Jabi Secondary School, Abuja.

The goal is to train a total of 400 students by the end of the week as part of the Africa Code Week series of events which took place across the continent.

Today started off with a bang! 80 students were introduced to the basics of programming using Scratch and our amazing facilitators Ismail Lukman and Chibuike can be seen with the students smiling after an exciting session.

We resume with day 2 tomorrow.

Mentor 2 Impact 2017 02/12/2016

Mentors are an essential ingredient in discovering, nurturing and releasing the creative abilities within individuals for the common good of all. Social Entrepreneurship being a fairly young field is one of those areas where having good mentors makes a world of a difference. I count myself blessed to have had the best of mentors ever since I made my foray into the social impact space. My mentors have helped me grow as a person through recommended book readings, partnerships, referrals, and the list goes on. However, as we all know "To whom much is given, much is expected." And so I have decided to start a formal process of mentoring other young, dynamic and ambitious people committed to making an impact through their lives.

Through this program I call "Mentor 2 Impact" I am looking for 10 passionate people with fire in their eyes and a spring in their step. A lot of people have reached out to me for mentorship and so I decided this time to start a formal process that I can commit to. The idea is to create a multiplier effect through this process. The first 10 people who will be privileged to come on board will also commit to mentor the next 10 people (1-to-1). We will continue to ride on these ripples until we have built a strong network of Mentors leading Mentees to create Sustainable Impact in their communities.
Remember I am doing this of my own volition so the selection process will be very rigorous! I need self-driven people who will commit to reading the books I ask them to read, coming up with their plans of action amidst other things. Some of the things I want to help you do are;

-Assist you in preparing a one-year plan for 2017.
-Help you go from from idea to ex*****on of your social innovation. This will include Need Verification/Solution Design, Business Model validation, Building and Scaling your organization and the Dissemination of your Social Innovation (courtesy of my Professors at the INSEAD Social Entrepreneurship programme). However, If you have already left the idea stage then the better for both of us. That way we will focus on the other sections of the Social Innovation lifecycle.
-Help you grow your Social Capital.
-Share opportunities for professional development
-Form a Mastermind group of 10 social entrepreneurs who will serve as Accountability partners to each other as we move towards achieving our 2017 goals and beyond.
-Equip you to become an effective mentor to others and much more.
-More importantly, I need people I can also learn from and get to share your amazing stories with the rest of the world.

The deadline for the application process is December 15, 2016. Successful applicants will be contacted latest by December 20, 2016. If you don't hear from me by email by then you can rightly conclude that your application wasn't successful and try again when I launch the next round of applications on June 1, 2017.

So with that said, I welcome you to apply for the first cohort of Mentor 2 Impact 2017 using the Google form below. I wish you the very best. Cheers! (Please share with someone who really needs this).

And it's a wrap! Africa Code Week 2016 for us was a blast. We decided to push ourselves by exceeding our 2015 goals and we did it. Team work makes the dream work. Can't wait to see how bigger we go in 2017. A big shoutout to Toyin, Udeme, Fatima, Tony, Glory, the teachers and students for being a part of this. This program was supported by Google and a big thank you to the Africa Code Week team as well. Signing out with love 😎

Wow! What an exciting way to conclude Africacodeweek2016 with the students of Federal Government College, Kwali.
We had a good time for the 2 days spent there and were able to train about 220 students comprising a higher percentage of female, on how to code using scratch programming. These students are smart and they wowed us with the projects they came up with within the little space of time.

No doubt, some of these students have the inherent ability to create technology driven solutions to the problems that plague us as a continent and the world at large, and that's why we are committed to harnessing their skills.

A big thanks to Stephen Nwadike for making our experience at the school worthwhile. The world needs more passionate teachers like you.
It's been a great week so far and we will keep helping teens win.

Team members Toyin and Tony brought joy to the students of Bishop James Yisa Memorial Secondary School in Suleja yesterday. The Africa Code Week is still on and we will be heading next to show some "coding love" to the students of Kwali tomorrow. This program is "Supported by Google"

Yesterday was indeed a big day for the students at the Bishop James Yisa Memorial Secondary School, Kwamba, Suleja, Niger State. We took our Code Rural event "Supported by Google" as a part of the Africa Code Week series of events. A big thank you to our team members Toyin and Tony for pulling this off successfully!!! We move next to Kwali on Thursday....

Our CodeRural event for Africa Code Week was launched at Bishop James Yisa Memorial Secondary School, Kwamba, Suleja, Niger state. We taught about 90 students on how to code using Scratch programming and it was so amazing to see their creative minds in display within the short time. No doubt, there are inventors amongst them and that's why we are dedicated to harnessing their innate skill/ability.

Also, because we are focused on making measurable impact, we created a Google CS club in the school to avail the students the opportunity to develop their coding skill. At the end of each term, we plan to share their progress story. Stay tuned.
