PRESS CONFERENCE STATEMENT
World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
16th November 2025
Ladies and gentlemen, members of the press, distinguished partners, and fellow advocates of road safety — thank you for joining us today.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a solemn moment. It is a day we pause to honour the lives lost, acknowledge the families forever changed, and recognize the survivors still living with the physical and emotional scars of road crashes. Today, we stand united in grief — but also in purpose.
Every year, thousands of lives are cut short on our roads. These are not just statistics; they are parents, children, colleagues, friends — people whose dreams ended abruptly. Behind every number is a story of heartbreak, unfinished plans, and communities left with irreplaceable gaps.
This year, our message is simple and urgent: Road deaths are preventable.
Speeding, distracted driving, drunk driving, bad road conditions, and weak enforcement continue to claim lives that could have been saved. We must all take responsibility — government, agencies, transport unions, road users, and every individual who steps behind the wheel.
As we remember the victims today, we also renew our commitment to action:
Stronger enforcement of safety laws
Safer roads and safer vehicles
More education and public awareness
And a culture where every journey is treated with caution and respect
We call on everyone: Drive to save lives. Slow down. Stay focused. Stay sober. Respect pedestrians. Use your seatbelt. Protect the person next to you, behind you, and ahead of you.
Today is about remembrance — but it is also about hope.
Hope that with collective effort, compassion, and accountability, we can build a future where fewer families mourn, and more people arrive home safely.
We honour the victims.
We support the survivors.
And we commit to safer roads for all.
Thank you.
