Don’t Give Up on Yourself: Lessons for Professionals and Business Leaders

We all have dreams, and they’re valid if we’re willing to put in the work. But sometimes, when things don’t go as planned, it’s easy to feel discouraged. Today, I want to remind you not to give up on yourself by sharing two inspiring stories.

The first is about Victor Boniface, a Nigerian footballer who plays for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. In a recent interview, he shared how his dream of playing in the Champions League came true—Years after he first imagined it. Despite growing up with limited resources and struggling to afford sports gear, he never lost hope. His belief in his dream helped him overcome every challenge along the way.

Now let’s talk about business. Whether in sports, life, or business, success comes from staying focused, believing in yourself, and being consistent. We all face challenges, but the key is to keep going, even when it’s tough.

So, what’s one thing you can do today to get closer to your goals? Start by believing in yourself and letting that belief shape your actions. If others can succeed despite the odds, so can you.

This Week’s Challenge:
Repeat your top goal to yourself every day this week until it becomes part of your subconscious. Let this practice fuel your actions toward success.

Remember, your dreams are valid, and with perseverance, anything is possible. Have a growth-filled week ahead!

🚨 How the Removal of Fuel Subsidies is Affecting Your Wallet and the Economy

In my recent research, I explored the "Impact of Fuel Subsidy Removal on Household Spending in Nigeria" and the results are eye-opening. This policy change has triggered big shifts in how people spend their money, and businesses are feeling the effects too.

Here are a few key takeaways:
💸 Spending Priorities Are Changing: More people are focusing on essentials like food and transport, cutting back on luxury items.

📈 Inflation Is Rising: Fuel prices are driving up the cost of goods, making life tougher for families and small businesses.

💡 Time for Innovation: The companies that adapt quickly by offering affordable, creative solutions will come out stronger.

🔍 What can you do?
1. Think about how you can adjust your spending.
2. If you own a business, consider offering flexible payment options.
3. Stay ahead by keeping an eye on market trends!

I believe data-driven strategies are the key to navigating tough times like these. Want to know more about how this affects you and your business? Feel free to drop a comment!

🚨 Beware of Systemic Risk in Your Business 🚨

In today’s fast-paced business world, success isn’t just about seizing opportunities—it’s about managing the hidden risks that can disrupt your entire operation. One of the most critical yet overlooked threats is systemic risk.

What is systemic risk? 🤔 It’s the risk embedded deep within your business processes, supply chains, or even your entire industry. If left unchecked, it can ripple through your business, causing major disruptions.

But here's the good news: You can protect your business like the big brands do! 🌟

Apple mitigates risk by diversifying suppliers.

Coca-Cola hedges against currency fluctuations to protect its global profits.

Amazon invests heavily in technology and data to stay ahead of disruptions.

Want to know how you can safeguard your business, too? 🔐
Here are a few strategies:
1️⃣ Assess your entire ecosystem—know what and who impacts your business.
2️⃣ Diversify your dependencies—don’t rely on just one supplier, customer base, or product line.
3️⃣ Build contingency plans—prepare for the unexpected before it happens.

By taking proactive steps, you can ensure your business not only survives but thrives in the face of uncertainty.

💡 Let’s build a stronger, more resilient business together! 💡

When I joined Toastmasters International in 2019, my main goal was to improve my public speaking skills. Little did I know that Toastmasters would become a transformative journey that extended far beyond speaking.

From my first speech (icebreaker) on October 11, 2019, at the Urban Professionals Toastmasters Club, I began to immerse myself in the organization's various learning activities. I soon found myself taking on leadership roles, a path that shaped my Toastmasters journey in ways I had not anticipated.

Starting at the club level, I served in multiple leadership positions, including Treasurer, Vice President of Public Relations, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Education, and President. Each role taught me valuable lessons and helped hone my leadership skills. My dedication and performance at the club level allowed me to take on higher responsibilities at the division.

At the division level, I have served as the Division E Club Growth Director, Area 65 Director, and Division J Club Growth Director. Each step up the ladder came with challenges and triumphs, but each was a testament to my growth and commitment to the organization.

Reflecting on my journey, I am proud of my impact. Seeing the clubs I chartered as Division E Club Growth Director gives me immense joy because of the new opportunities for learning and development they provide to members. My speaking skills have improved immensely, moving me far beyond where I started. Along the way, I completed two paths: Presentation Mastery and Effective Coaching, delivering over 50 speeches. The journey has been rewarding, and I know it can only get better from here.

I owe a great deal of my success to the support and encouragement of many individuals. I want to thank Akande Olamilekan Jamiu, my first mentor, who encouraged me to move to Urban Professionals Toastmasters. His guidance was instrumental in my early development. I also extend my gratitude to all the Urban Professionals Toastmasters Club members for allowing me to lead in various capacities. Additionally, I am grateful to all the Toastmasters who have evaluated my speeches and offered leadership advice throughout my journey toward the Distinguished Toastmasters Award.

So, what's next for you? I am committed to mentoring young professionals, entrepreneurs, and aspiring leaders, helping them navigate their paths within Toastmasters and beyond. I also aspire to speak more at Economics, Trade and Data Science industry events on real-world economics, investing, and result-oriented leadership.

Lastly, I want to acknowledge the visionary founder of Toastmasters International, Dr. Ralph Smedley, who established this incredible organization on October 22, 1924, to help members improve their public speaking and leadership skills. His vision has profoundly impacted my life, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunities and growth I have experienced through Toastmasters International.

Leadership is about investing your resources in the success of others. These resources might be money, time, or energy. This principle guided me during my tenure as Area Director 65 in Division U, District 94, for the 2023-2024 Toastmasters calendar year.

My responsibility was to ensure the success of four clubs: Apo Hill Diamonds Club, Beryl Toastmasters Club, Sapphire Toastmasters Club, and Urban Professionals Toastmasters Club. Based on several key parameters, I categorized these clubs into three groups: strong, stronger, and strongest.

With this profiling in place, I put in the work and am proud to say I left the area as a President's Distinguished Area. This achievement means that two of the clubs achieved all 10 DCP goals set by Toastmasters International, one club achieved 9 out of 10 goals, and the last club, despite some membership base issues, achieved 10 goals. Fortunately, the last club was able to exit distress and stabilize, and I have no doubt it will thrive in the 2024-2025 mandate.

Adding a final touch to my tenure, I facilitated the creation of a new Toastmasters club in Area 65, the Nile University Toastmasters Club, which was chartered on June 25, 2024.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the past Division Director of Division U, Olusoji Salu DTM, and all the Area 65 presidents, TM. Diamond, TM. Khadijah, TM. Kasim Sulaiman Abdullahi and TM. Abayomi Oluwatoyin, for their hard work and dedication. I also want to thank Alhassan Mohammed, DTM, the current Division J director, who provided behind-the-scenes support.

I am proud to have left the area stronger and wish my successor even greater success as they continue to elevate the clubs in the newly formed Area 32, Division J, setting a standard for others to follow.

Lesson learnt:
Leadership is about sacrifice and investing your resources in the service of others.

So, are you looking for a place to develop your leadership skills? Toastmasters International is where leaders are truly made.
