KATSINA PEACE TALKS: WE WERE HIRED TO COME HERE, THEY GAVE USE GUNS AND TOLD US TO ATTEND-LOCALS
According to a report by Daily Post, a peace meeting in Katsina State has stirred outrage after several attendees reportedly confessed that they were not real bandits but hired locals paid to pose as them.
The dialogue, held in Batagarawa and Charanchi Local Government Areas, was meant to promote reconciliation between residents and armed groups terrorizing local communities. However, the event quickly turned controversial when some supposed “bandits” revealed they had been recruited, armed, and instructed to attend the meeting. The disclosure has now cast serious doubt on the credibility of the entire peace effort.
We were hired to come here. Some of us are not bandits. They gave us guns and told us to attend,” some of the attendees were quoted as saying.
Reports from Katsina Times and an eyewitness account shared by security analyst on X (formerly Twitter), said the armed men admitted they were engaged to make the gathering look successful.
The meeting was convened by local government officials and attended by the Executive Chairman of Batagarawa Local Government, traditional rulers, and community representatives.
Security experts and residents have since questioned the sincerity of the peace dialogues, warning that such staged events could undermine trust between the government and affected communities. Analyst Bakatsine wondered, “Where were the real bandit commanders apart from Sani Muhudinge? Why were only unfamiliar young men present?”
This is not the first time peace talks with bandits have attracted controversy in northern Nigeria. Similar negotiations in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Niger States collapsed after many “repentant” fighters returned to banditry, leaving communities vulnerable once again.
Critics argue that such approaches often reward criminals while ignoring justice for victims.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s administration has emphasized community engagement in tackling insecurity, but the latest development may force a review of strategy. Many now urge the state government to investigate the allegations and ensure only credible stakeholders participate in future dialogues.

NIMC Cautions Nigerians Against Selling or Sharing Personal Data
By SoloCom News Desk
Source: National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Press Release dated July 27, 2025
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians, urging them to desist from selling or carelessly sharing their personal data, especially their National Identification Number (NIN). This follows a recent disclosure by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) about a growing trend of identity fraud across the country.
According to the EFCC, a disturbing scheme involving some young Nigerians offers unsuspecting victims a paltry sum between ₦1,500 and ₦2,000 in exchange for copies of their personal details. These details are then allegedly resold to fintech companies for up to ₦5,000. The Commission describes this practice as a grave security risk with severe consequences for the individuals involved.
In response, NIMC made it clear that it will not be held responsible for any negative outcomes resulting from individuals who willingly or unknowingly share their NIN or other sensitive personal information. “Nigerians have been informed repeatedly not to disclose their NIN to unauthorized persons or organizations,” the statement emphasized.
The Commission also reminded service providers that any NIN presented for service access must be properly verified before any transaction is completed. This is to safeguard both the data owners and the integrity of identity-based services in the country.
As part of its data protection strategy, NIMC advised the public to download the NINAuth App from the Apple iOS App Store or Google Play Store. The app offers users better control over their personal information and enhances the security of their NIN.
The statement was signed by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, and dated July 27, 2025.

THE OBVIOUS/BITTER TRUTH WE SHOULD ALL KNOW.
The present American president, Donald. J. Trump cried out about unemployment problem in his book titled "The MidasTouch" (2011). He echoed:
"The root of societal problem is that, schools do not create entrepreneurs. Schools are designed to create employees. Today we say "Go to school to get a good job." Most students, even graduates of MBA programmes come out to become employees, instead of entrepreneurs. Millions of students leave school each year saddled with massive student-loan debt; young and old, are looking for jobs, or are afraid of losing their job."
WE NEED MORE ENTREPRENEURS WHO CAN CREATE BUSINESSES AND JOBS.
Abraham Maslow says "The most valuable 100 people to bring into a deteriorating society would not be economists or politicians or engineers, but rather 100 entrepreneurs."
Only entrepreneurs create real jobs. Chronic unemployment causes social unrest which leads to revolution. For example, the 2011 riot in the Middle East was caused by chronic unemployment. Government alone can not create enough jobs. Today workers in hand are too much for government to carter for.
As parents/guardians of this generation, we owe our children/wards the responsibility to plan for their future so that they shall not become beggars for jobs but creators of jobs. We need to admit them into schools that can teach them to become business owners with business ideas and managerial skills.
We ignored technical education in our society for a long time. Before, our people would say " wan ne fa takerada ga, a za technical." Only dull children were given the opportunity for technical education. They are great entrepreneurs today. We hardly take brilliant children to technical schools, but we are paying the price today. We share our salaries with technicians in the market when we take our vehicles to them and are charged highly for small spare parts replacement in engines which becomes the obvious and bitter truth we are talking about.
Isien Rock Innovation College P.M.B 2013 Gboko, Benue State,is the solution for this problem. Bring your child/ ward where he/she can be trained to be self reliance and employed.
