HAPPY LORD'S DAY
LORD’S DAY MESSAGE DELIVERED BY PASTOR J.O.A FADIPE ON 30th MAY 2021
TOPIC: THE SIN OF UNFORGIVING SPIRIT
TEXT: MARK 11:25-26
SCRIPTURE READING: MATT 18:21-35
Introduction
The message for the Pentecostal Lord’s Day for the month of May, 2021 is “Grieve not The Holy Spirit” which is one of the sufferings of the Holy Spirit springing which men, professed Christians in particular, mete on the Holy Spirit among many other sufferings of the Holy Spirit, which will be dealt with in due course of time. The root cause of the Holy Spirit’s sufferings in form of grieving is the ignorance (folly) of many professed Christians who rejoice in the sin of un-forgiveness as they justify their actions to the intent of developing the Spirit of un-forgiveness. Little did such people realize that a servant cannot serve two masters (Matt 6:24; Rom 6:16) and that their professed Christian life is fake so much that their expectation to make heaven is doubtful . if not a sheer ruse! Paul’s discussion on the grieving of the Holy Spirit emanates from the conduct of man towards another as a result of their inability to forgive each other (Eph 4:30-32)
The Fact of Forgiveness as Christian Virtue
As Christian life is initiated by giving (John 3:16; Gal 2:20), so also is the life lived and sustained by “forgiveness”, since the medium through which a child of God communicates with His Father in heaven in order to rehearse the life of heaven here on earth (Deut 11:21; Phil 3:20; Col 3:1-2; 2 Pet 1:3-4) is prayer, sustained by The Holy Spirit (Mark 11:25 compare Luke 6:38)
Christian life thrives and grows in victory through the life of forgiveness, which is the life of giving oneself to another who offends the individual in the course of life.
Why Should Christians Forgive?
(a) It is a symbol of Christian identity (Acts 7:30 compare Luke 23:34)
(b) It is a command of The Master (Luke 17:3-4; Matt 18:21-22)
(c) It enables a child of God to live a life void of psychological distress and unrest as well as the avoidance of the trap of the devil (Rom 12:17-18; Matt 18:34-35 ; 2 Cor 2:9-10)
(d) It is a life of acceptable sacrifice by identifying with Christ in his baptism of suffering (Matt 20:22 compare Isa 53:7)
(e) Ushers in overcoming Christian life (Rom 12:19-21)
Application and Conclusion
Every Christian must be mindful of what Christ suffered before we are privileged to be called children of God and reciprocate the gesture by forgiving others, so that we may enjoy our Christian life and also have the assurance of reigning with Him in eternity. May The Lord help as as we journey the Christian pilgrimage in this world of conflict.
