Fort Fest 2026 was a success!
Over the weekend, Fortifiers and Aspiring Fortifiers gathered across 32 locations simultaneously to mark six years of The Fort Institute - TFI. Different cities, one community, and one creed recited at the same moment across Africa.
We did not just celebrate an anniversary. We demonstrated what six years of leading differently looks like when it stops being a programme and becomes a people. Every location was evidence of something real being built on this continent.
32 cities. One Fort. One day. We cannot wait for Fort Fest 2027. 🎊

TODAY IS FORT FEST 2026! 🥳
Six years ago, The Fort Institute began with a conviction that Africa’s future could be led differently. Today, that conviction is gathered in multiple cities across Africa and beyond, eating together, laughing together, and celebrating what six years of choosing this community has built.
This is Fort Fest. This is what it looks like when a mission becomes a family.
Happy Fort Fest, Fortifiers. 🎊

Research consistently shows that the quality of a training programme is determined more by the preparation of its facilitators than by the quality of its content. A well-designed curriculum in underprepared hands produces a fraction of its intended impact. This is why step-down training, where facilitators are developed before they develop others, is one of the most evidence-backed investments any leadership programme can make. The Ibadan Secondary Schools Leadership Programme understood this, and they called BOLT.
Through our Accelerated Learning Programme, we equipped these student facilitators with the clarity of vision, consistency of delivery, and depth of understanding needed to train secondary school students effectively. This is what BOLT does across schools, campuses, and communities: we do not wait for young people to find their way to leadership development. We take it to the spaces where they already are, and we build the people who will carry it further than we can reach alone.
Every facilitator trained is a multiplier. Every multiplier reaches students we will never meet directly. That is the architecture of impact at scale, and it is exactly the kind of work The Fort Institute (TFI) exists to do.

Most people, when asked why Africa's institutions keep failing, point at the current leader. And they are not entirely wrong. But they are not entirely right either.
This Sunday, Cohort 6 of the Foundational Leadership Development Course (FLDC) runs Module 8: Institutions and Leadership — across 40 Forts, in English and French. The session will challenge a widely held assumption: that changing the person at the top is enough to change the institution. It will introduce a more demanding and more accurate idea — that institutions are not buildings or offices, but patterns of behaviour, and that behaviour changes only when enough individuals change first.
This is the module where everything the course has built comes together. It is the reason TFI begins with the individual.

Tomorrow, our community gathers for Fort Fest 2026.
Six years of The Fort Institute has produced something that no curriculum can fully capture: people who genuinely show up for each other. Tomorrow, across multiple cities simultaneously, that showing up becomes visible.
If you are a Fortifier, you already know where to be.

11,000 leaders and emerging leaders across Africa and the world are now reading our leadership letters. That number means more to us than it might look. Each one is a person who decided that the kind of thinking we are doing here is worth their time and attention.

Three days to Fort Fest 2026.
What started six years ago with a small group of young people committed to leading differently has grown into a community spread across cities, countries, and time zones. On Saturday, that community gathers in one moment across multiple locations.
We cannot wait.
