Subject: Loss of Dominion
Text: Gen. 3:1- 5, Gen. 2:16-17, 2 Tim. 3:7, John 3:3
“You Cannot Lose What You Never Had”
INTRODUCTION
In our last episode, we spoke about our identity, and who we truly are. We also realize that we are living below that very expectation. In this episode, we want to discuss why we are living below the expectation. One reason so many of us experience frustration in life is because our environment has changed. Is like fish out of water. We were designed to govern, dominate, and lead our environment but instead, we live in a world where our pride, lust, passion, greed, and selfishness govern us. We are dominated by the adversary, Satan, the author of sin and the instigator of humanity’s downfall. God designed us for mastery, yet that is not the reality we experience in our daily lives. We are frustrated because we are not fulfilling our purpose. We do not function properly because we are not living in the environment for which we were designed.
THE FALL ROCKED THE EARTH
Now the serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Gen. 3:1- 5).
God created humanity to have dominion over the earth, but this purpose was disrupted by Adam and Eve's disobedience. When Eve was deceived by Satan, who promised her god-like knowledge through the forbidden fruit, she forgot that she and Adam were already made in God's image, possessing authority akin to His.
Satan's greatest tactic was instilling self-doubt in Eve, leading her to question both herself and God. This self-doubt stems from low self-esteem and a negative self-image, causing individuals to view themselves as less than they are and ultimately undermining their faith in God's character. As a result, many see themselves as doubters rather than believers and followers instead of leaders.
DID GOD REALLY SAY THAT?
“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
The devil first sowed doubt in Eve's mind about God's instructions, questioning whether God truly said they couldn't eat from any tree. He misrepresented God’s prohibition, suggesting that eating the fruit would open their eyes and make them like God, knowing good and evil. This led Adam and Eve to develop a distorted understanding of knowledge and ultimately succumb to temptation, thinking they could become more like God. Instead, their disobedience resulted in them becoming less like God and more like the devil.
SURRENDERING YOUR HEAVENLY PASSPORT
When a citizen is convicted of a crime, surrendering their passport symbolizes the loss of their rights and privileges, reflecting their fall from grace with the government; similarly, Adam's disobedience to God resulted in the forfeiture of his citizenship rights as the one with authority (have his passport withdrawn), making him a prisoner of darkness under Satan's control. So, we are in this world until we realize and seek the way out.
CONCLUSION
The reason why God’s Spirit could not stop the fall of man, was not because He was weak, powerless, or impotent, but rather because He was faithful to His word. However, this is also why the promise of the Kingdom being taken from the adversary had to include and require the promise of the coming of the Spirit of God in a human body. As Creator, God knows what is inside each one of us because He put it there. Whenever God speaks to you, He addresses you based on what He knows about you, not on what other people think they know.
To reclaim our rightful identity, we must adopt a new mindset, recognizing that regardless of our current circumstances, we are destined to take charge.
PRAYER Psalm 51:12, 2Corith 10:5
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Amen
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…Amen
Now we have seen the reason why we are frustrated. Is there a way out of this ignorance and frustration? Join us to find this out in our next episode. May God give us an answer of peace.
