: Finally, ASUU Supends Strike After 8 Months.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight month strike

The decision was taken unanimously by members of its National Executive Council after a lengthy six hour meeting which began on Thursday night.

Speaking to our correspondent after the meeting, a member who requested anonymity said the outcome was positive and the final decision was adopted based on how the branches voted. He also hinted that university students have waited long enough and can return to class once again.

When ASUU president Prof. Emmanuel Oedeke was reached, he only briefed that "We (ASUU) will release an official memo today (Friday)" and also, adding that the 'result is not a bad one'

Full details of the agreement between the union and the federal government that led to the suspension of the strike are expected in a press conference later today.

: All State and Federal universities are to resume on Monday October 17, 2022.
The date is however, subject to change as some universities may fix their own schedule.

Asuu nec meeting is set to hold today at Abuja to take its final decision over the suspension of its 8th months strike it embarked upon since feb 14th 2022..

Meanwhile varsities under asuu has held their congresses which ,majorities has voted for a suspension of strike..

The meeting is expected to commence by 4pm today,which may last through Friday morning,as principals,branches chairmen have made their ways to the venue in Abuja..

All congresses reports will be submitted today to the national body,to deliberate on and take decision by the majority votes..

A press conference would follow by Friday morning,as the national president would publicly announce its decision taken at the nec Meeting

Withdraw CONUA, NAMDA’s licences, NLC writes Ngige

The NLC said their registration could not stand because it contravened the laws, which had been tested and affirmed by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court.

The President, NLC, Ayuba Wabba, made the request in a protest letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, titled, ‘Organised labour rejects the purported registration of new trade unions for academics in Nigerian universities’.

The letter with reference number NLC/NS/E.16/654 and dated October 5, 2022, was obtained by Sunday PUNCH in Abuja.
