DON'T SAY: My names are...
SAY: My name is.
REASON: The number of words in your name collectively projects your identity whether your name has three or more words.
If you can't say, 'The TITLES of the book ARE The English language in Nigeria', you shouldn't say, 'My names are ELIZABETH INNOCENT WILLIAMS. Just like the name of a person, the title of a book consists of several words, but we don't pluralize the title of a book because of
the number of words it is made up of.
We usually say, 'The title of the book is...
Professionally, we say it is a singular noun phrase or a collective noun hence doesn't need a plural verb.
Here is another way to look at its usage.
Can you say, 'MARY PROMISE STEPHEN ARE
the owner of the car'? No! This is
because MARY PROMISE STEPHEN refers to
one person despite the number of
words that make up the name. But you
can confidently say, MARY PROMISE STEPHEN IS the owner of the car.
Therefore, it should be "my name is..
not otherwise.

*```Hi friends,*```
Do you always say "crack your brain"?
Hey! come on friends, your brain is not a wall!!!
You rather _rack_ _your_ _brain_ and not ~crack~ ~your~ ~brain~ .

The idiomatic expression "to rack your brain(s)" means

to think very hard, usually in order to remember something or to find a solution to a problem.

*A dialogue between two colleagues...*

Colleague 1: I heard our biggest supplier went out of business last week.

Colleague 2: Yes. I have been racking my brain trying to think of how we can possibly find a replacement supplier.

Colleague 1: Have you come up with anything?

Colleague 2: Not yet. Our supplier was the only one on the entire west coast.

Colleague 1: Then I guess you had better think harder because if you don't find a replacement soon, it will be a disaster for us.

*Examples* :

1) Was I insane? How did we stand each other? I rack my brain for instances of seeds of resentment planted during that first year.

2) In an ideal world, I wouldn't have to rack my brain trying to pick just one natural gas company.

3) Nse-Abasi spent three hours racking his brain before he remembered .

4) Instead of finding a place to go and then racking your brain to find a decent price, why not find the cheapest price first?

5) Sitting calmly and supportively when someone is upset seems like it would be easier than racking your brain for a solution, but I don't think that's the case.

6) Lizzy said she had been racking her brain for weeks, trying to figure out something special to give Mary for her birthday.

7) He endlessly racks his brain to try and understand how that could be.

NOTE: DON'T SAY RACK A JOKE RATHER SAY CRACK A JOKE.

*Hope you got value?*
Ms. Elizabeth
