MSSN CONDEMNS CONTINUED FAILURE OF GOVERNMENT ON SECURITY AS GUNMEN ABDUCT STUDENTS IN OYO AND BORNO STATES

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) expresses deep outrage and unequivocal condemnation over the disturbing abduction of scores of students by armed bandits in Ahoro Esinele, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State and Mussa village, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday, 15th May 2026.

This latest tragedy further exposes the alarming deterioration of security across Nigeria and the apparent inability or unwillingness of governments at various levels to guarantee the safety of citizens, especially students whose only aspiration is to pursue education in peace.

MSSN finds it unacceptable that innocent Nigerian students continue to become easy targets for kidnappers, terrorists and criminal elements; while political actors appear more preoccupied with permutations, alignments and campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections. The recurring attacks on schools and students suggest that the sanctity of human lives is increasingly being treated with levity by those entrusted with governance.

Nigeria cannot continue on this dangerous path where students leave their homes for learning but end up in captivity. Education should never become a death sentence or a gateway to abduction.

Saddeningly, MSSN also mourns the tragic death of a secondary school teacher; Mr Joel Adesiyan who reportedly lost his life during the terrorist attack on the Esinele, Oyo State School. The loss of an educator and school personnel in such a senseless act of violence is painful and unacceptable. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, students and the entire family community.

We therefore call on the Federal Government, relevant security agencies and the governments of Oyo and Borno States to immediately mobilize every necessary resource toward securing the safe and unconditional release of all abducted students without harm.

Furthermore, MSSN urges political leaders across the country to redirect their energy from premature electoral calculations and focus on the urgent responsibility of governance, particularly the protection of lives and property. Leadership is measured by the safety and wellbeing of citizens, not by political ambitions.

The persistent failure to decisively tackle insecurity continues to erode public confidence and threatens the future of education in Nigeria. Nigerians deserve protection, students deserve safety, and families deserve peace.

MSSN stands in solidarity with the affected students, their families and communities during this difficult period and prays for the quick and safe return of all victims.

This was reported in of the Nigerian dailies dated 12th May 2026 quoting the annual publication of a research outfit affiliated with the Royal Al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Amman, Jordan.

According to the journal, the influence covers areas like governance, scholarship, philanthropy and advocacy.

The Sultan has been consistent in his unwavering condemnation of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups under the guise of Al-Islam and has been urging Muslims to totally reject the radical ideologies and embrace peace.

Apart from this, the Sultan has been a leading advocate of interfaith dialogue. He uses his position as the Co-chair of the Nigerian Inter Religious Council (NIREC) to promote peace, ease sectarian tensions and foster national unity closely with the Christian leaders.

His Eminence has been known at the global stage for his voice strongly against injustice in Palestine, pushing for a decisive international action to uphold human rights. Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar influence extends into education, humanitarian relief and broader justice issues; reflecting the soft power he wields across Africa and beyond.

One of his most resonant and widely quoted remarks against extremism was 'Jihad simply means striving. Striving to be a better Muslim, a better Christian, a better Citizen and a better human being. It is not about killing anyone. Islam abhors extremism'.

This recognition affirms the position of Sultan Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar's role as a moral compass and unifying figure not only in Nigeria but across the Muslim world. The ability of His Eminence to combine traditional authority with modern engagement continues to make him one of Africa's most Influential religious and traditional leaders and World's most Influential Muslims.

*PRESS RELEASE
‎MSSN Condoles with Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai on the Passing of His Beloved Mother*

‎The Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN) sorrowfully announces its condolence to Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State, on the passing of his beloved mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who returned to her Lord on Friday, 27th March, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, at approximately 100 years of age.

‎Hajiya Umma lived a century of faith, grace, and quiet sacrifice. She raised children who became pillars of public life in Nigeria, and her legacy will endure far beyond her years. The MSSN acknowledges that behind every prominent son stands a mother the world rarely gives enough credit to.

‎We are mindful that this loss follows the recent passing of his daughter-in-law, Safiya Ali Rufai, barely a week ago. We pray that Allah grants the El-Rufai family the strength and patience to bear this double grief with Iman.

‎The MSSN prays that Almighty Allah (SWT) admits Hajiya Umma into Jannatul Firdaus, illuminates her grave, and grants the entire family ease in these trying times. Ameen.

Allāhummaghfir lahā warḥamhā wa 'āfihā wa'fu 'anhā.
"O Allah, forgive her, have mercy on her, grant her well-being, and pardon her."
