As parents, we have a God-given responsibility to our kids to ensure that they grow into responsible members of the society.

Instructional Roles: Centers around the parent(s) teaching their ward(s) how to behave/act in certain situations in their day to day activities that are socially acceptable and responsible. Learning from instruction requires the child to play an active role in order to acquire new knowledge successfully. Additionally, the parent(s) must be a good example to their ward, as Children often pick up behavioral traits from their Parents.

Rebuke Roles: These roles are corrective in nature. They involve calling the Child to order when he/she displays unacceptable behavior.
Parents must take this role very seriously as kids may permanently imbibe unacceptable behavior if left unchecked.

Exhortation Roles: When your child’s behavior, speech and actions are pleasing, you must praise him/her for it. This is what exhortation roles are all about. Heap words of encouragement and approval on your child to let them know you are proud of them. In addition, you should often include gifts and prizes to show your child how proud you are of him/her. This builds your child’s self esteem and encourages them to do even better.

Educational Roles: Parents serve as the first teachers of their kids during the early years. The responsibility of teaching doesn’t end when a child starts going to school. Kids should be taught basic etiquette, morals/ethics, social skills and how to be productive members of society by their parents.

Activity time!
The kids had so much fun!

As children get older, more responsibility is placed on them to complete their homework and stay on top of their assignments. While some students have the motivation to complete their work on time, other students struggle to get started.
Although it’s important for parents to take an active role in ensuring their child completes homework, it’s also important to not force your child to do it—there’s a big difference between forcing and motivating.

So what can you do when your child has no motivation to study?

1. FIND OUT WHAT’S STOPPING YOUR CHILD
Your child may be unmotivated to study for several reasons. Finding the root of the problem will help you and your child develop a plan to overcome the barriers that are preventing him or her from completing homework.

2. MAKE STUDY TIME EASIER
Make study time as easy as possible for your child by providing him or her with everything needed to get work done: A quiet space, food and drink, the right tools.
Making sure your child has everything he or she needs means less resistance and fewer excuses.

3. CREATE A STUDY PLAN TOGETHER
Children do well with structure—having a solid study plan in place will help keep your child on track. Sit down with your child and create a plan for completing homework each night. Including your child in the process
will help keep him or her engaged (and more willing to adhere to the plan!)

4. CREATE A REWARD SYSTEM
Build a reward system with your child so he or she has something to look forward to once study time is complete—the key to staying motivated when studying. The rewards can be as simple as watching TV once homework is done or collecting ‘points’ after each study session to use for something special.

5. FOCUS ON LEARNING INSTEAD OF PERFORMANCE
Instead of focusing primarily on grades, celebrate milestones related to learning—both big and small.

Students who do not keep up with their learnings over the summer see a decline in achievement scores that averages an entire month of school-year learning. To avoid what some call “summer learning loss,” you can engage your child in various activities to keep them thinking and applying their school learnings all summer long.

Read and explore – Whether you visit your local library or have an existing selection at home, help your child pick a book about nature – maybe a bird-watching book or a children’s encyclopedia on flowers. After choosing a species to study, take a trip to a park or zoo to see if they can find what they’ve been reading about. This helps develop research skills, as well as observation skills.

Get crafty – Think outside the box with crafts this summer and try something more challenging to test your child’s engineering and imagination skills.

Inspire a little chef – Inspire your child to get involved in cooking by asking them to pick out a dinner recipe and help make it from start to finish (with parental supervision at all times). Measuring ingredients can be a fun math lesson – while following a recipe is good practice in reading and following directions for a specific outcome – delicious food!

Teach with movies – After watching a movie together, talk about what you just watched and their thoughts about the characters, what the movie was about, and what other outcomes are possible by changing the scenario. This helps them gain a deeper understanding about messages and themes, which can help comprehension skills.

Enroll your child in a summer camp; This is one way to ensure your child is learning while having fun even without your involvement. You can enroll your child in our summer splash, it promises to be so much fun.
Activities for our summer splash include; Mental maths, coding, movies, music, dance, arts ‘n’ crafts, cookery, sewing, shopping, spelling bee, reading club, creative writing, etiquette, morals and values, hands-on activities, and lots more.
